STL County council rejects Charlie Kirk resolution
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/stl-county-council-rejects-charlie-035536529.htmlST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO. Tuesday night, in a 5-2 vote, the St. Louis County Council voted against a resolution honoring the life and legacy of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.
Those against it said they felt some of Kirks past comments disqualified him for the recognition and also said they felt it was inappropriate to elevate an unelected official with such an honor.
After an extended period of public comments, the council voted 5-2 against the resolution.

Missouri is "deep red" - St. Louis proper may not be, but the county is. I think trying to make kirk a martyr for their cause is going to backfire - too many people will be exposed to his extremism and will not find it acceptable.

(52 posts)1. Let Charlie Kirk's words speak for themselves
St Louis is 45% white but it's also 44% black and they may not appreciate Charlie Kirk's past comments
Katherine Gobel Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson were three African American women who were recruited by NASA for their mathematics and computing skills during the midst of the space race.
One of the women led the Programming department, one became an engineer, and one was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and they have a NASA sub facility named after them

(20,350 posts)2. St Louis County does not include St. Louis City
The (blue) city is independent and not party of any county, although the surrounding metro area is. So that vote represented suburbs and whatever rural areas there are around the city. I think that makes this vote particularly significant.
