'Exclusive: Leaked Messages from Charlie Kirk Assassin'

"Trump and company portray the alleged Utah shooter as left-wing and liberals portray him as right-wing. The federal conclusion will inevitably be that he was a so-called Nihilist Violent Extremist (NVE); meanwhile, the crackdown has already begun, as I reported yesterday. The country is practically ready to go to war."

“ 'It’s been so terrible and seeing it from an inside perspective is so frustrating,' a friend of Robinson’s since middle school told me. The childhood friend, who asked not to be named for fear of threats, provided me with the above non-public photo of Robinson on a camping trip (a favorite activity of his) to corroborate their relationship."

“ 'I think the main thing that’s caused so much confusion is that he was always generally apolitical for the most part,' the friend told me. 'That's the big thing, he just never really talked politics which is why it's so frustrating.' "

"The picture that emerges bears little resemblance to the media version. Robinson, I am told, though quiet, was a well-liked person with a supportive family. The friend group who he interacted with on Discord, far from some kind of militia camp or Antifa bunker it’s been portrayed as, represented a range of different political views but mostly talked video games."

1. So he was a perfectly normal, no trouble kid who woke up one day and did an elaborate murder of a public figure

What a bunch of baloney that is.

It may be entirely true that he was quiet and nobody noticed his problems. But that just tells me that the source of this piece didn't know much about him, and this is just more gaslighting.

2. Not accepting he's "left wing." However, it's kind of tough to expect majority to believe he's just some right winger

who decided to go out and shoot a soon to be very popular martyr for the hell of it.

There are better ways to handle this in media than trying to bend ourselves into pretzels to claim he was just another white wing gun-humper bent on killing another white wing gun-humper.

Who the hell is Ken Klippenstein?

3. But there must be resistance to the flood of gaslighting coming from everybody on the right

I agree there must be a better way to address this. I do think it is fair game to make these points:

1) We have a huge gun violence problem in this country.
2) It is quickly turning into a political violence problem.
3) People all across the political spectrum are being murdered.
4) The people doing this are RADICALIZED, and the FBI's own documents say this radicalization is overwhelmingly from the RW.
5) There are multiple warring factions within the RW, all trying to position themselves for the departure of Trump.
6) There is every reason to believe that the Trump shooting and the Kirk murder were MAGA-on-MAGA violence.
7) The left has nothing to gain by making a martyr out of Kirk. Plenty of people on the right are doing exactly that.
