Pressure mounts on GOP leaders to extend ObamaCare subsidies

(The Hill) GOP pressure is mounting on Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to extend expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits, as a number of rank-and-file Republicans push leaders to prevent the popular subsidies from expiring at the end of the year.

Eleven GOP lawmakers have endorsed legislation extending the benefits for an additional year, punting the issue beyond the midterm elections. Most of them are vulnerable front-liners facing tough reelection contests — and wary of the spike in health costs expected to hit patients if Congress doesn’t act.

The issue is a tricky one for Republicans, who had opposed the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as ObamaCare, unanimously in 2010, and united again against the two Biden-era laws that first created, and then extended, the enhanced tax credits for patients during the pandemic.

Sorry that is not enough, at a minimum they must be extended for 35 years along with several other non-negotiable items. Otherwise shut it all down. My fear is that will be enough for Schumer.

I believe the Democrats should just stay out of this and let the Republicans take responsibility for the shutdown. They can't govern on their own, so we should just in general let them screw themselves

that was his plan. Vote for the CR and then Krasnov will burn it all down and then Democrats will win the election.

People who have their Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare subsidies gutted will be asked to vote Democratic and hope the elections are fair. Missouri is the 2nd state to gerrymander; there will be more to follow.

Even if Schumer is right about his strategy, why didn't he shut down the government last March until all of our social safety net was protected? Once bills are passed it's harder to undo them.
