The trouble with that statement? It’s not true, according to data from the Chicago Police Department and FBI. The data shows ongoing decreases in violent crime — and far worse homicide rates in other cities.

Trump this week seized on reports that at least eight people were killed and more than 50 were wounded over the Labor Day weekend. He pointed to that bloodshed as evidence that he should send federal troops to Chicago to fight crime — which local officials (and a judge in California) have said would be illegal ...
