Turns out this Fox News hack isn't too good at being a US attorney
Former Fox News pundit and current U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro is not exactly covering herself in glory as she enables the Trump administrations takeover of the nations capital, and judges and juries are making sure she knows it.
Did you know that federal magistrate judges do not like it when one of Donald Trumps alphabet soup of goons decides that they have probable cause to search someone for being Black and carrying a heavy backpack? Well, more to the point: Did Pirro know that federal magistrate judges do not like it when one of Trumps alphabet soup of goons decides that they have probable cause to search someone for being Black and carrying a heavy backpack? Because she does now!
In dismissing charges Pirros office had brought against Torez Riley, who literally was searched for the crime of being Black and backpacked, U.S. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui said, "It is without a doubt the most illegal search I've ever seen in my life. I'm absolutely flabbergasted at what has happened. A high school student would know this was an illegal search."
Pirro pushed for the charges against Riley, fighting with her own subordinates about a charge that typically would have been dropped because the search violated the Fourth Amendment. According to news reports, Pirro finally agreed to move to dismiss the charges last Friday after being shown body camera footage of Rileys arrests. Cool cool cool that she pushed for the heightened charges before actually seeing what happened.

Jeanine Pirroâs office fails three times to convince grand jurors to return indictment www.msnbc.com/deadline-whi...
https://www.msnbc.com/deadline-white-house/deadline-legal-blog/jeanine-pirro-washington-indictment-rcna227190
The rejection came in the case of Sidney Reid, who prosecutors in Washington alleged last month had forcefully pushed an FBI agents hand against a cement wall and caused lacerations on the agents hand during an immigration enforcement protest.....
Monday afternoon came and the government filed not an indictment but a notice to the court. It said not only that an Indictment has not been returned in this case but, incredibly, that a third grand jury returned a no true bill. A true bill is when the grand jury votes to indict.,.....
Its worth noting that this is only a preliminary phase of the case, and if it moves forward to trial, prosecutors must prove it to the people of D.C. beyond a reasonable doubt to secure a conviction. Theres a general line of thinking that, however embarrassing it is for a grand jury to return a no true bill, in those rare times that happens, grand jurors have done prosecutors a favor of sorts by keeping a potentially shaky case from a trial jury.
Still, three times might be a sign that the message shouldve been received at least the second time.
But the U.S. Attorneys Office led by former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro isnt giving up. Not completely. Though prosecutors are apparently no longer trying to make it a felony case, they filed whats called an information that charges Reid with a misdemeanor assault. That lets them move the case a hobbled version of it, anyway forward without grand jury approval.

(10 posts)The case looked bad when two separate grand juries refused to indict. Jeanine Pirros response was to bring the case before a third grand jury, presumably in the hope that the grand jury would screw up. She then indicted on a misdemeanor, which doesnt require grand jury approval. When three separate grand juries say that this is not a legitimate prosecution, we should believe them.
