Texas Democrats know they may lose redistricting protest, but hope to spark a national fight

(Texas Tribune) ST. CHARLES, Illinois — If Gov. Greg Abbott is determined to pass a gerrymandered congressional map, Texas Democrats know he has the votes and the power to eventually get his way.

But for the dozens of Democrats who left the state this week in protest of the map, it’s not just about winning — it’s about fighting.

Away from their families and regular jobs, Texas Democrats, most of whom are hunkered down in a suburb about an hour west of Chicago, are facing $500-per-day fines, civil arrest warrants and threats from Republican state leaders to remove them from office.

Now five days into the walkout, they plan to stay away until at least the end of the special session on Aug. 19. When they return, they face the possibility of being stripped of their leadership positions and even further marginalized in a chamber where they are already outnumbered. And no matter how long they stay away, Abbott can just call another special session to pass the map.

1. All red states will do it and the Supreme Court will say it's legitimate

The blue states that will try it will be told by the Supreme Court their attempt however is not legitimate.

There is zero chance that will not be what happens.

Just like right now fake AI generated documents photos and videos are being created to implicate Bill Clinton and Barack Obama in various crimes, Clinton with Epstein and Barack with Russia gate.

There is zero chance they won’t be used to arrest our two former presidents.

After that they will announce that the Social Security and Medicare monies are gone and it’s because of something President Biden did. Or if not entirely gone drastically reduced so they have no choice but to end both systems send Americans $.10 on the dollar if that etc.

I just don’t think most Americans including many of us realize what’s actually happening.

3. I doubt your zero chance statistics. I don't think any of this will be that simple. They may try but it doesn't mean it

will succeed.

Why would blue states not be able to gerrymander???

When red states do it for some made-up reason and not legitimate when blue states do it for some reason, surely we’ve learned that by now please tell me we’ve you’ve learned that!

7. I dunno. I'd have to see the details. Like what reason would red states do it that blue states can't use?

Find in favor always for the Nazis and never for the patriots.

It doesn’t have to be grounded in the law or even common sense it just has to be any excuse, for instance they can say well these lines don’t discriminate in this red state and these lines do in this blue state.

The current court is not a legitimate court by any means.

12. I know. I just don't know what their exact rationale is for redistricting now, especially legally that they

2. Get gravity of situation, but leaving Texas to avoid a vote that will occur anyway is not our best look, IMO.

Admittedly, I don't have an effective recommendation for what we should do.

Anyway, I'm very curious what the end game for the TX Dems is.
