Until Trump Fired Her, She Was an Economist With Bipartisan Support
Erika McEntarfer led the agency that produced key data on jobs and inflation. Then Julys report showed a weakening economy, and President Trump accused her of rigging the numbers.

Nearly the entire Senate supported Erika McEntarfer in 2024 to lead the agency that produces key data on jobs and inflation. The widely respected economist was confirmed on a bipartisan 86-8 Senate vote, with support from Vice President JD Vance, who was then an Ohio senator, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, then a Florida senator.
But Dr. McEntarfer was suddenly caught in the political crossfire on Friday when President Trump lashed out over the agencys most recent jobs report and fired her for releasing monthly jobs data showing surprisingly weak hiring. He called the data rigged without offering any evidence, and he accused Dr. McEntarfer of manipulating the job numbers for political purposes.
Dr. McEntarfer was nominated to her most recent post by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. Before that, she earned her stripes at the Census Bureau, where she worked for over two decades under both Republican and Democratic presidents. She graduated from Bard College with a bachelors degree in social sciences, and she obtained a Ph.D. in economics at Virginia Tech. She began her career as an economist at the Census Bureau, where she worked for six years, according to her LinkedIn profile. In 2008, she joined the Treasury Department, where she analyzed the presidents budget as well as the effect of tax policy proposals on revenue.
Dr. McEntarfer returned to the Census Bureau in 2010, assuming more of a leadership role. She became the head of research for the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics program, which is responsible for developing new statistics on postsecondary employment outcomes and quarterly work force indicators. She also served on the White House Council of Economic Advisers under the Biden administration, advising senior White House officials on labor market data. Her time on the council came as the labor market was recovering from the pandemic.

(12,076 posts)Being a GOP Trump supporter who doesn't wear the MAGA hats and paraphernalia.
But it does absolutely no good to shoot the messenger. The message doesn't change. It just makes the shooter look like a weak baby who can't handle the truth.

(66,741 posts)She was nominated by Joe Biden. Her confirmation by the Senate had the support of members of both major parties. The vote was bipartisan.
I have no idea what Erika McEntarfers politics are. The commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics isnt supposed to be a cheerleader for anybody.
You can interpret this article any way you wish, but Im going to stick with the facts, okay?
And good morning.

(12,076 posts)But many a democratic president has appointed, nominated and approved of GOP members in their executive departments.
I just don't trust bipartisan. If you stay neutral, you are supporting the status quo.
But she certainly didn't deserve to be fired for doing what she was supposed to do in her job.

(38,397 posts)were fake. He always telegraphs his intentions, if he claims someone is doing something
wrong you can bet he is or will be himself. He pushed the Epstein pedophile scandal about Biden
and it is obvious Trump was guilty himself. Was there really an Epstein Island or was that island
actually Mara Lardo?

And good morning. Nice, refreshing day for a change in DC. Probably central PA too. Get out and walk or bike around if you can.

Anyway, I am posting as a reply the letter I sent last week to the Chairwoman of the DCCC, with cc's to my Congressman and Senators.
Thank you for your patience.

Dear Ms. DelBene,
For many years I have been receiving petitions, questionnaires and requests for funding from the DCCC, I assume this is based on my lifelong voter participation, from the age of 21, when I voted for Adlai Stevenson for President.
I have been a life long Democrat and have served on my local, Sonoma County CA Democratic Central Committee. My experience during that service on the committee was that expensive paper mailings DO NOT WORK! Even I, as a political participant do not open the political mailings, be it from the DCCC, local, state or -most obnoxious- out of state politicians. I have even purchased and utilized a RETURN TO SENDER stamp, unfortunately the USPS returns 95% of these mailings to me!
My assessment of the situation of the Democratic party-from the top down is lack of an aggressive program. Advertising should be highly visible in public venues.
Billboards,
Signs on trucks in communities, shopping centers,
Advertising to captive audiences in movie theaters, sports stadiums,
Small give away items: handy inscribed letter openers, key chains, nail clippers, emery boards, pens, email address books and similar small, inexpensive handy items, even kitchen pot holders and dispensers for BBQ sauces!
Door to door is obviously the very best out reach and the most difficult to staff, so lets move on to:
Programs designed and executed to enroll new young voters should be created, funded and implemented. My plan would:
Offer college credit to High School Seniors who participate in a credit earning Civics course, which would transfer the credits to a local college or junior college, or a college to which the student has been accepted.
And a voter registration opportunity tied to the Civics course. A Civics instructor from the local college or junior college would be contracted to run this program.
So, there you have it from a lifelong Democrat and proud American who is terrified at the path our country and my party is stumbling on. Get tough, playing nice is not going to defeat the Republican party that has surrendered to fascist, demented Donald Trump!
A favor, if possible, can you remove me from the mailing list? Thank you

At this point, Nixon comparisons dont do Trumps level of corruption justice. Donald Trump makes Richard Nixon look like Mr. Rogers

Larry Summers: "This is way beyond anything Nixon ever did ... this is the stuff of democracies giving way to authoritarianism. Firing statisticians goes with threatening the heads of newspapers, launching assaults on universities, launching assaults on law firms. This is really scary stuff."
