Trump voters wanted lower medical bills. But for millions, bills are about to go up

President Trump rode to reelection last fall on voter concerns about prices. But as his administration pares back federal rules and programs designed to protect patients from the high cost of health care, Trump risks pushing more Americans into debt, further straining family budgets already stressed by medical bills.

Millions of people are expected to lose health insurance in the coming years as a result of the tax cut legislation Trump signed this month, leaving them with fewer protections from large bills if they get sick or suffer an accident.

Changes large and small

At the same time, significant increases in health plan premiums on state insurance marketplaces next year will likely push more Americans to either drop coverage or switch to higher-deductible plans that will require them to pay more out of pocket before their insurance kicks in.

Smaller changes to federal rules are poised to bump up patients' bills as well. New federal guidelines for COVID-19 vaccines, for example, will allow health insurers to stop covering the shots for millions, so if patients want the protection, some may have to pay out of pocket.

The new tax cut legislation will also raise the cost of certain doctor visits, requiring copays of up to $35 for some Medicaid enrollees.

2. ACA health insurance will cost the average person 75 percent more next year, research shows, NPR

Health insurance premiums are going way up next year for people who buy their insurance on Healthcare.gov or the state-based marketplaces, according to an analysis out Friday ( https://www.healthsystemtracker.org/brief/individual-market-insurers-requesting-largest-premium-increases-in-more-than-5-years/ ).

The average person who buys Affordable Care Act insurance will be paying 75 percent more for their premium, according to the analysis from KFF, a nonpartisan health policy research group.

. . .

If healthy people opt out, the insurance pool is left with those who cost insurance companies more — people who can't go without health insurance because of chronic conditions or expensive medications. "That's why insurance companies are going ahead and charging a higher premium, with the expectation that the market is going to get sicker next year," explains Cox.

So, it's a combination of the expiration of the enhanced premium subsidies that began in the Covid era that will primarily spike costs. Then, disproportionately the healhier will opt not to pay for insurance and so drop out of the insured pool, leaving a sicker pool who most need the coverage. The combination will result in the average of the remaining insured seeing a 75% premium increase.

===================================

Remember the above is the ACA. Then there's cuts to Medicaid, Medicare... Oh, and there's huge cost increases expected too for employer-provided coverage and the employee share, according to an article I read maybe 2 weeks ago.

5. The enhanced subsidies for the ACA for the poorest of the poor will expire on Dec 31st

That will jack their rates by who knows how much or cause them to lose health care all together. It's all just a step ladder approach to KILLING the ACA,then start slowly killing off Medicare and SS.

Dems need to be yelling about this crap on a daily basis and trying to force voting to get Republicans on the record.

the un-said truth of what Republican's believed as Health Care was (and still is):

If you get sick, die.............But first,...... let our Corporations suck your finances dry for Medications, Health care, Procedures, Operations, etc then they want you to just go bye-bye...
.
The epitome of this was during COVID....................We watched it with our very own eyes.......It is estimated that due to the delay in
action/in-action, the U.S. suffered and ADDITIONAL 500,000 un-necessary deaths......
