Trump White House Rages Over 'South Park' Episode, Calls Show 'Fourth-Rate'
The president cowed Paramount execs, but the companys talent is rebelling. Now, the administration is melting down
Donald Trumps White House is melting down over Wednesday nights South Park premiere, which just so happened to attack the presidents teeny tiny manhood and depict him as literally in bed with the Devil, effectively taking over the role held on the show for years by the late genocidal dictator Saddam Hussein.
(snip)
The episode came just hours after it was reported that Paramount had agreed to buy the global streaming rights for South Park in a five-year deal worth $1.5 billion.
The twice-impeached, repeatedly indicted president has for decades harbored intense, mean-spirited pop-culture fixations, and that personality trait has not changed six months into his second administration. It would be easier to shrug off his celebrity obsessions as mere cattiness, if waging war on late-night television and its corporate owners werent an actual facet of his administrations sprawling project of authoritarianism and fear.

Paramount has faced mounting criticism over its efforts to cozy up to Trump. The executive producer of 60 Minutes quit in April, and said he was no longer allowed to make independent decisions running the show. The companys decision to part ways with host Stephen Colbert and end his late night show has created an uproar, too.

(126,300 posts)to the lampooning. I don't usually watch either Colbert or South Park (I don't dislike either show, I just don't watch much network tv), but of course I went looking for these "offensive" items. If they were smart, which they are not, they'd just ignore the shows, no matter how harsh they get. But I suppose Trump insists that one of his mouthpieces express outrage and insult the show, since he always has to have the last word.

(50,668 posts)I hadn't watched Colbert since before the election, but when CBS announced they were canceling The Late Show, I started watching it again. I might even try watching South Park, though I never cared much for the show.
I agree, ignoring such shows would have been the best way to go, but now Trump's White House has given them free publicity. It's not like MAGA was watching either of them, so they aren't losing any viewers, just gaining some.

The non cartoon news media needs to follow the lead.
Pretty sad when a cartoon has to set an example of guts.

South Park never fails to deliver
ETA: This video was not "age restricted" when I posted it here earlier today. This is YouTube (Google) censoring the video retroactively, after the controversy surrounding the episode has gained attention. Lame.

(62 posts)A President, quite irate,
Found "South Park" sealed his sad fate.
With manhood so small,
And the Devil's thrall,
His White House was in a meltdown state.

My question: Why have they made Trump a Canadian?

(31,123 posts)If he had the capacity to act like an adult and be good-natured, even amused by this "South Park" critique (you know, the way Obama or Biden would handle it), the whole thing would be out of the news and forgotten by day's end. As it is, his typical hysterical outrage will guarantee a massive number of views of the episode, and likely establish it as a classic political statement for years to come. Thanks for living down to our expectations again, trump...

(469 posts)People who haven't watched South Park in years will now tune in and no doubt they will do a sequel to this episode with emphasis on Epstein. Trump doesn't realize how easy he's getting off compared to what they'll do next.
