Aaron Reichlin-Melnick: DOJ files motion to stay the entire discovery process.

NEW: After getting an epic drubbing from Judge Xinis yesterday, late last night/early this morning the DOJ filed a sealed “motion to stay” the entire discovery process.

Considering they waited 8 days to file this and she’s already accused them of stonewalling, I expect she won’t look on it kindly.

NEW: Judge Xinis largely rejects DOJ's opposition to discovery requests in the Abrego Garcia case, accusing the Trump admin of "a willful and bad faith refusal to comply with discovery obligations," citing their continued denial to acknowledge what the Supreme Court ordered.

No. My guess is that, now that she has swept aside all of their absurd objections and refusals, they are now going to play the “this is all state secrets and we need more time to prove why” card. Might buy them a day or two if she’s feeling particularly cautious but they’ve already dug a deep hole.

are those normally filed under seal?

Depends on the arguments they're making and the judge themselves, so no timeline can be presumed.

And yes, we will hear something public from the judge when she rejects or grants the motion. It would just likely not get into the details (or redact the details) if it touches on sensitive material.

How long does it usually take for a judge to wade through something like this? Will we hear anything about after the review the sealed motion?
