Opinion - At the first whiff of power, these Republicans betrayed the rule of law

(The Hill) Every day the Trump regime tramples the rule of law makes Americans less free and less safe.

Every day the president defies the Constitution and courts makes America less America.

President Trump is increasingly acting like a king or dictator who rules by decree, and whose decree is all it takes to make someone disappear.

That’s now happening here, and with the full support of people like House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who has long portrayed himself and the Republican Party as advocates for the rule of law.

I was thinking "Well, maybe they're acting this way because they aren't used to having this much power. Maybe they'll settle down after a while." Nah, they're power crazy and not right in the head. And mostly criminals.

After MAGA dies, and it will, the GOP needs to be out of power for at least a generation or 2.

This could be even more damaging.

I don't think it was always that way, but I've seen a callous disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law growing withing the party for decades.
It's now the theme of all their plans and actions.
Gain power at any cost. Use that power to elevate the rich, and depress the poor and middle class.
Use that power to shape the very fabric of American Society to reflect the views of part of that society, to the detriment of the rest of us.
And now they've reached that point where the very essence of what America stands for is being swept away to restore a king as ruler of America; something we rejected 250 years ago.

I don't think our current government will be happy with anything less than total capitulation of the masses. They're showing us what they will do with anyone who gets in their way, and almost daring us to cross the line so they can overtly engage in violent suppression of all who are not totally committed to their new view of America.
