TSF's latest tariff "announcement" is a reminder that we're all being oppressed by a pathological liar who loves sowing

After repeatedly insisting he wouldn’t back down following his widely-panned tariff frenzy last week, Donald Trump did just that today, “announcing” that some of the stupid tariffs he unilaterally imposed last week would be “suspended” for ninety days, while also increasing tariffs on China again after Xi Jinping’s regime refused to blink in the ridiculous game of trade war chicken that Trump recently instigated.

The unexpected yet still predictable “announcement” pleased Trump’s extremely nervous enablers on Capitol Hill and Wall Street, and stocks jumped as investors reacted with visible relief, but it won’t provide the stability or security that households, businesses, and countries are looking for. The cruel reality remains that we’re all being oppressed by a pathological liar who loves sowing chaos.

Trump’s own disposable lackeys, who are instructed to present the regime’s daily propaganda at the expense of their own dignity, were apparently not made aware of his decision before Trump made it. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer or Deputy Treasury Secretary Michael Faulkender were making appearances before Congress today and neither acknowledged being made aware of the suspensions.

Trump previously did the same thing with tariffs on Canada and Mexico (announcing tariffs only to suspend them, then rinse and repeat shortly thereafter), which is why many shrewd observers anticipated Trump might back down. The “announcement” also keeps tariffs front and center, preventing other things the regime is doing (like killing funding for scientific and climate research) from getting as much notice.
