House Democrat slams US-Iran peace deal as 'basically a surrender document'

Source: The Hill

06/13/26 4:02 PM ET

Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton (Mass.) criticized the reported details of an agreement with Iran, after President Trump said the U.S. and Iran plan to sign the peace framework on Sunday. “This is a terrible deal,” Moulton told MS NOW on Saturday. “It’s basically a surrender document from Donald Trump to the supreme leader of Iran.” The Massachusetts lawmaker, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, criticized the economic and human toll of this conflict.

“I mean, $100 billion of taxpayer money already put into this war, 14 Americans dead, and we get a deal that just reopens the strait that was already open before he started the war? How is that a win?” he asked. A senior U.S. official said on Friday that the deal includes provisions to prohibit Iran’s nuclear building capabilities and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil trading waterway in the region.

On Saturday, Trump announced that a peace deal framework would be signed on Sunday, after which the strait would be reopened “immediately.” Pakistan, which has been mediating these talks, said that the agreement would be signed electronically, followed by “technical level talks” next week to reach a peace deal.

“This is just lose, lose, lose across the board for Trump and the United States of America,” Moulton told MS NOW following the president’s announcement. “And yet, I will still say that stopping this war and getting out of it is the best that we can do at this point,” he continued. “And so that’s why we are still hoping for a deal, even though we have to admit it’s a losing deal for America.” Moulton noted that the president has teased imminent deals with Iran “countless times.”

1. News for you-

In war there are not winners and losers.

There are those who have lost, and those who have lost more.

There is never a winner in a war.

We are going to give Iran billions and billions, and pay reparations. The taxpayer is the loser, as are the families of the dead and wounded on all sides

They might get some of their own money released to them but that's not the same as us paying them reparations

I don’t recall any discussion of any openings or other actual effect from the signing.

This is a mushroom yank for Don’s Birthday Sad Clown Circus.

Would the honorable representative from MA like to outline what he was looking for in terms of a 'win' in this conflict .. ?

And the straight will open but it will cost us $300 billion of our own money to rebuilt what we destroyed including their military. All sanctions will be dropped. They will get all of their sanctioned money back with interest from the gulf states. They already got 3 billion from the UAE so that Iran stops bombing them with another $10-20 billion on the way. Remember when Obama released $1.2 billion for humanitarian aid to be administered through Oman and the Republicans went apeshit? So I believe 16 us service members died, I don’t know how many more wounded. Billions of dollars of aircraft and bases destroyed and the economy of the world is in freefall for absolutely nothing.

I would have no qualms about a regime change (Shoot me. I know people from Iran. I'm Armenian, we're a minority in Iran), however it would need to be something that actually works. Iran is too fortified for a true regime change in the manner that Trump planned. (I say Trump, because I don't think Netanyahu was ever decieved about the regime change. Netanyahu only cares about Israel and the threat that Iran poses to Israel. )

Just changing the Supreme Leader does nothing.

Then there was some prolonged fight about oil and Straits of Hormuz. (Seems to be a huge waste to me)

Yes, there is the nuclear stuff, (Israel??) wasn't that pretty much taken care of last year. Did they decrease their nukes with this battle? Was there any change? Maybe, but who knows and who knows how permanent it is?

A regime change would be a democratic government that the people support, not an evil dictatorship. So, this war accomplished basically zilch.

I wonder how the Persian community here feels about this? Persian is a name exiled Iranians in the US call themselves .

It's a "code name" for someone who doesnt' support the Islamic Republic.

If someone tells you they are Persian, they are telling you something. (They generally do not wear hijabs and they embrace western values) Persians are exiled Iranians. They can never return home. They don't have a mother home. Iran is off limits to them.
They can't visit their families.

So, if someone tells you they are Persian, embrace them.

Andy, the Persian Prince of Pop can't go back and visit. Their heart is with their culture, but their culture is over there and here. They still can't go home and visit.

We used up all tactical weapons (or at least enough to hit the "no more, full stop" level) and it will take years to restock.
