Federal judge halts work on Trump's 'anti-weaponization fund'

Source: CNN

A federal judge in Virginia has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from moving ahead with plans to create a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate people who it says were wrongly targeted by the government in the past.

The brief order from US District Judge Leonie Brinkema says the administration cannot take any action “pursuant to the creation or operation of the Anti-Weaponization Fund, which includes the transferring of money to the Fund; the consideration of any claims submitted to the Fund; and the disbursing of any funds from the Fund.”

She set a hearing for June 12 to hear arguments over whether she should issue a more lasting pause on the government’s efforts to set up the fund, which is being challenged by a diverse coalition of people and entities who say they would be ineligible to receive money from it.

2. But this seems to miss the central point.

The ruling seems to be on the basis that some people might be unfairly excluded from this blatantly criminal operation.

The central point is that it cannot be possible for the President to sue himself, then failing with that lawsuit, ordering his employees to simply take billions of dollars from the Treasury and hand it to him.

WTF, people?

(And I am perfectly happy for the judge to take this path, as the easiest way to stop the program in its tracks without interference from the SCOTUS while public pressure grows. She is probably making a smart move here. But where the F is the media asking the basic questions about this blatantly corrupt operation?)

3. To address your last question...

... virtually all M$M is now owned by billionaire Republican sympathizers, though some prefer the term, "NAZI" sympathizers. So they reduce the news to Pablum for public consumption, and spike true stories they don't like.
This is all part of a full-court press to institute Feudalism 2.0, with the odious billionaires at the top of food chain. You thought the fictional Sauron of Mordor was bad? These motherfuckers are worse, and they're REAL!
They can never be content to just wallow in their wealth; they have to steal tax dollars when they pay no taxes at all, along with picking your pocket for whatever you have, and making your lives as miserable as possible in the process, just because they can.
And they wonder why everyone hates their fucking guts. Go figure.

8. There are a number of issues that will be litigated

Here is Congressman Raskin's list

My two favorite issues are that there was never a lawsuit in the first place due to the fact that courts had no jurisdiction since there was no case or controversy. The other great issue is that the filing by 30+ judges that this is a fraud on the court

is the most basic thing in the Constitution. Money is spent under appropriations, and only Congress can appropriate.

How can this even be given any serious consideration. It is blatantly and obviously illegal 10 different ways.

6. I hope SOMEONE is challenging the other half of that settlement

That trump, his family members and his businesses receive permanent protection from IRS investigations.

As part of the settlement agreement, the U.S. is "forever barred and precluded" from examining or prosecuting Trump, his sons and the Trump organization's current tax issues, according to a one-page document posted to the Justice Department's website on Tuesday.

Yeah, the slush fund is meant to reward the criminal supporters of trump. But the other half of that settlement is meant to reward the BIGGEST criminal!!

12. MaddowBlog-Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump administration's 'slush fund' from advancing
Fri May 29, 2026, 08:21 PM

Opponents of the initiative last week took the fight to the courts. On Friday, one of the cases led to an order the White House probably won’t like.

This morning’s court order is temporary, but for now, Team Trump can’t:
- create or operate its slush fund
- transfer any money to the slush fund
- consider any claims
- cut any checks to anyone

U.S. District Court Judge Leonie Brinkema temporarily blocked the administration from advancing its plan to create the fund, issuing a two-page order preventing Team Trump “from taking any further action pursuant to the creation or operation of the Anti-Weaponization Fund, which includes the transferring of money to the Fund; the consideration of any claims submitted to the Fund; and the disbursing of any funds from the Fund.”

To be sure, this is merely a preliminary step, which is unrelated to the underlying merits. For all intents and purposes, the judge (a Clinton appointee) decided to maintain the status quo until the court can hear additional arguments.

That said, it was also of interest to see a footnote in the court order, in which the judge noted that the administration failed to provide assurances that it would hold off on disbursing funds until the court had a chance to weigh in on the motion for preliminary relief. She quoted this section from the plaintiffs’ motion:

At the time of this filing, government counsel was unable, however, to provide assurances of how long that status quo would last — including declining Plaintiffs’ request that the government commit to not transferring money to the Fund or processing or paying claims until at least June 19 to allow for less compressed briefing in this case.

Brinkema’s order set a court hearing for June 12, at which point she’ll consider additional steps.

trump and his corrupt DOJ appears to have been planning to fund this slush fund. This ruling made me smile.
