'I don't care about the midterms.' Trump says Iran misjudged him

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran wrongly assumed he would retreat from his demands during negotiations to avoid a long standoff ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting on May 27, Trump said the Iranian regime "thought they were going to outwait me" regarding a peace deal. "'We'll outwait him. He's got the midterms,' Trump said. "I don't care about the midterms. Look what happened last night. That was the prelude to the midterms."
Trump was referencing victories of candidates he endorsed in Republican primaries across the country, headlined by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's lopsided U.S. Senate primary defeat of incumbent Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn.
As the U.S. war in Iran drags on, Trump and Republicans risk making high gas prices caused by the conflict a focal point of the midterm election in November. Republicans face an uphill fight to retain their slim majority in the House, and Democrats increasingly believe they have a path to take control of the Senate.

(13,948 posts)Might as well get people used to the idea now that the Strait of Hormuz will still be closed in November.
He could be fooling himself, but it may be dawning on him that there is no way out that doesn't paint a giant L in the center of his forehead.
And we all know the felon will go to any lengths to escape the "Loser" label -- even if it means being the boy who endlessly cries "deal" to escape loser status another week, month, year...
Instead of being a weak loser, he gets to pretend "holding out" is strength. So holding out longer must be super-strength.
I suspect it may not play out the way he imagines in his psychopathic fantasies.
One way or another, we are in this for the long haul.

(568 posts)Trump meant to say I don't care about the people of the United States. Because he doesn't care if we suffer.

(13,948 posts)The only thing any Republican has going for them is DISTANCE from the anchor that the felon represents.
He equates strength of MAGA in a Republican primary as strength in the general electorate, where at least 2 of every 3 people disapprove or strongly disapprove of the felon?
