Thomas Massie files to run again in 2028 after Trump-led ouster from Kentucky seat

Source: Independent

After losing a primary challenge to a Donald Trump-backed candidate last week, Republican Rep. Thomas Massie is already preparing for a return to politics in 2028.

The Kentucky congressman has already filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission, which will allow him to continue fundraising for any potential campaigns before the next congressional elections.

“I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run,” he said Monday.

In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, Massie said he wasn’t ruling out "anything" for his political future.

He's also against blind support of Israel, Epstein files, and endless wars.

AIPAC told a bunch a lies about her even though they didn't mention Israel. Mainly accused her of not being loyal enough to Biden. I think a lot of voters in her district may feel misled and back her though the only recent poll I could find shows her in a statistical dead heat with Wesley Bell so it could go either way.

"sour grapes" laws which prevent a candidate losing in a primary from running in the General in any capacity.

But if a run is allowed, we would clearly get some GOP votes, and here might be some arrangement whereby Dems would support him.

Or alternatively, maybe Massie should endorse and campaign for the Dem candidates.

Massie would ever endorse a Democrat.

Also Massie has a better chance in 2028 because Chump will be gone by then, or on the way out the door.

It seems that write-in candidacies rarely have a chance unless it's for a small local office.

I know people like Massie and Liz Cheney believe in some things many of us could never get on board with.. But I listen a bit to Graham Platner. His message isn't particularly liberal or conservative. It is POPULIST. ANd so is Mamdani's

In a world dominated by evil bastards like Theil, Ellison, Trump, Musk, Bezoz, Zuckerberg, populism is going to be the winner. Most people don't understand that Trump's message has most been populism. He talked about "the swamp" and "the deep state". He talked about the cost of "forever wars". Those messages are popular. It is just that Trump was lying. The only thing Trump believes in is making money for himself by any and all means. The fact that Trump is still getting away with that tells us how strong the populist message is.

There has always been a strong element of "I'm mad as hell, even if I can't tell you why." Populists tap into that. In Massie's case, it seems to be the Epstein thing more than anything else.

I am simply suggesting that some of us may have more in common with people like Massie than we do with the "reach across the aisle" Dems who never seem to take positions on any of the most important issues. I am not suggesting that we will find ourselves in the same party with Massie any time soon. But that is mostly because the "reach across the aisle" Dems leave us with a great deal of inertia that is hard to overcome.

I do look at other democracies that have many parties that somehow find ways to form coalitions to make progress. We could use some of that, Like I'd trade Fetterman for Murkowsky in a heartbeat.
