6.0 magnitude earthquake rocks Big Island

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 6.0 magnitude earthquake rocked the Big Island at 9:47 p.m. on Friday, May 22.

There is no tsunami threat to the islands.

The 6.0 magnitude earthquake, which came from the southern part of the Big Island in the Honaunau-Naopoopoo area, was followed by a secondary aftershock at 3.2 magnitude, generally in the same area.

Following these two earthquakes, there was also a third earthquake that shook the islands at 1.8 magnitude as of 9:57 p.m.

She said it was weird because it lasted so long, like a good 30 seconds.

Things got rattled around. She said a few things fell, but thankfully that was it.

Oddly enough, the week before Memorial Day was also when me and family had gone to Hawai'i too, except 40 years ago (1986).
