Democrats' 2024 election autopsy blames Biden campaign for failing to set up Harris
Source: ABC News
The Democratic National Committee on Thursday released a report examining what went wrong for Democrats and then-Vice President Kamala Harris in their 2024 election loss to President Donald Trump.
The report, conducted by Democratic consultant Paul Rivera and heavily disputed by the DNC, has been a flashpoint for months within the party. DNC chair Ken Martin had initially backtracked on plans to release it publicly, saying that it would be a distraction from looking ahead.
Earlier this month, ABC News reported how many Democratic donors were frustrated with Martin's leadership, including his unwillingness to release the report.
"After last November's massive Democratic wins, I didn't want to create a distraction, but by not putting the report out, I ended up creating an even bigger distraction," Martin said in a statement on Thursday. "For that, I sincerely apologize."

(24,124 posts)My understanding is there was no discussion of Bidens decision to run for a second term and whether that was the best choice strategically, or whether an open primary without Biden would have given Dems a better chance of engaging voters, increasing turnout, and winning the White House.

(5,540 posts)slammed President Biden and VP Harris in such derogatory words by saying "endorsing Joe Biden for president would be like eating a "bowl of s**t", etc. along with a hostile media along with green party trolls only too eager to push division among Democrats.
This started in 2000 with the nader groupies "no difference between Democrats and republicans", culminated in 2016 against Hillary and our losing the Supreme Court, and finalized in 2024.

(12,544 posts)There is no legitimate way to have an honest discussion on this subject.
People sure don't mind shitting on progressives and blaming them in connection with this report and that's ok but there is no way to have an open discussion on this subject.

(13,871 posts)I fear that in my 47 years as an adult member of the Democratic Party (not counting babysitting so people could get to the polls to vote for McGovern when I was 12), I have never seen "us" get this one right.
Either unity is demanded, and enforced inside the beltway on things that require more internal debate. Or we fall into circular firing squad mode when unity is absolutely demanded to oppose a Republican threat.
And in re: 2024. I can't tell you how many arguments I had with my step-father throughout 2022 and into 2023. I was adamant that Biden should absolutely NOT run. He accused me of being ageist and made the case that Biden was our best shot.
When Biden announced his intention to run for a second term I cried. I felt betrayed. He was breaking his promise to be a "bridge" to a new generation of leaders. And we had some fantastic leaders "on the bench. But I pulled myself together and tried to internalize some of those "he's our best shot" arguments from my step-father.
I refrained from posting my fears. I did my best to be upbeat. But the dread never left me. A couple months before the fateful debate, my step-father raised the subject. He said I had been right. He'd been watching Biden on the campaign trail. He said he agree that Biden shouldn't have run, and he was scared as hell that it was a fatal mistake for the Democratic Party. I did the "brave face" thing and touted all I could find that was going "for us." But I felt the same dread.
I'm not sure where this leaves me. Angry at the party for falling into an "It's his turn, his decision" stance and silencing any critic or challenge. Angry that the party didn't get behind him 100%. I don't know.
But I can't say that I didn't have a hell of a lot of sympathy for people who started calling on him to drop out.
