April 30 (Reuters) - ArcelorMittal said on Thursday it had donated steel for a White House ballroom project backed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Luxembourg-based steelmaker's donation is ongoing and it has delivered 600 tonnes for the project to date, according to finance chief Genuino Christino, who disclosed the contribution on a call with analysts.
"We have a track record of ... donating steel to iconic buildings and projects around the world that showcase its strength and flexibility," he said.
Republicans in the U.S. Congress pushed for legislation to fund and speed construction of the ballroom on Monday, saying security risks had risen after a shooting at a dinner that Trump was attending. Trump had previously said that private donations would pay for the estimated $400 million cost.
