FBI Director Kash Patel sues the Atlantic claiming false reporting about drinking, absences
Source: Reuters
April 20 (Reuters) - FBI Director Kash Patel filed a defamation lawsuit against the Atlantic and its reporter Sarah Fitzpatrick following the publication of an article on Friday alleging the director had a drinking problem that could pose a threat to national security.
The magazine's story, initially titled Kash Patel's Erratic Behavior Could Cost Him His Job," cited more than two dozen anonymous sources expressing concern at Patels conspicuous inebriation and unexplained absences that alarmed officials at the FBI and the Department of Justice."
The article, which the Atlantic subsequently titled The FBI Director Is MIA in its online version, reported that during Patels tenure, the FBI had to reschedule early meetings as a result of his alcohol-fueled nights and that Patel is often away or unreachable, delaying time-sensitive decisions needed to advance investigations.
In the Atlantic's story, the White House, the Department of Justice and Patel denied the allegations. The article included a statement from the FBI attributed to Patel, Print it, all false, Ill see you in courtbring your checkbook.
The Atlantic's story is a lie, Patel said in an interview with Reuters. They were given the truth before they published, and they chose to print falsehoods anyway.

Patel and his lawyer wasted little time in condemning the reporting as false and vowing to file a lawsuit against the publication and the award-winning reporter who wrote the story, Sarah Fitzpatrick.
On Monday morning, he did exactly that, filing a $250 million defamation lawsuit.....
When host Maria Bartiromo asked, for example, for his response to allegations that he has a drinking problem, Patel didnt answer directly, though his response heralded President Trumps brilliant leadership.
BARTIROMO: The Atlantic alleges you have a drinking problem. What's your response?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2026-04-19T14:34:21.506Z
KASH PATEL: The results speak for the themselves. If the fake news mafia isn't hitting you personally w/baseless information, then you're not doing your job. This FBI under President Trump's brilliant leadership ...
As part of the same interview, the FBI director went on to claim that the bureau has information that bolsters Trumps conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election, adding, We are going to be making arrests. And its coming, and I promise you, its coming soon.
In reality, there is no evidence to support of the presidents discredited conspiracy theories he lost in 2020, fair and square as Patel likely knows. But if The Atlantics reporting is correct, and the director is deeply concerned that his job is in jeopardy, he also likely knows that theres no better way to bolster his job security than going on Fox News and vowing to arrest the presidents perceived political enemies while defending Trumps weird claims about his 2020 defeat.
Discovery in this case will be fun

(3,512 posts)if Dump decides he's going to embarrass his regime, out Kash goes, just like Noem.
Discovery should be fun, particularly since there have long been reports that he doesn't show up at the office, and is too busy clubbing.
