Ford's CEO said he chose to test-drive a Xiaomi and not a Tesla because the latter doesn't have an 'updated vehicle'

"Nothing against Tesla — they've been doing great — but they really don't have an updated vehicle," he said to Safian.

He said Chinese car brands like BYD are the "best in the business," considering their cost, supply chain, and manufacturing expertise.

Farley said China's progress in automobiles is something to be feared and respected, a message he has repeated several times in recent years.

In 2024, Farley said in a podcast interview that he had been driving a Xiaomi SU7 for six months and did not want to give it up. And earlier in April, he said on "Fox & Friends" that Chinese cars entering the US would be "devastating" to the US's manufacturing industry, which he called the "heart and soul" of the country.

Ouch!

In the meantime, while I’m pro-electric and hybrid car, I’m worried that American auto-makers lack these mental and engineering ability to adapt to the electric car market.

I keep imagining spectral voices whispering things like “Studebaker,” “Packard,” and “Hudson.”

The problem is EXACTLY the same as then. US auto makers don't want to make affordable fuel efficient cars. All they want to make is extremely profitable SUV's and trucks.

Fuck Ford, Fuck Chrysler/Stellantis, and Fuck GM!!!!!!!

I have been running across videos highlighting Chinese SUVs, and they would DESTROY the US auto market. Some of the features would only be found in $150k+ cars here, and they are standard! $55k would get you everything you could ever imagine. Look at Zeekr 7X.
