DNC votes down 'dark money' resolution singling out AIPAC, defers resolution on military aid to Israel

Members of the Democratic National Committee voted down a symbolic resolution aimed at curbing the "growing influence" of "dark money" corporate groups in Democratic primaries that specifically called out the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Committee members gathered on Thursday in New Orleans, where a majority of members objected to the resolution for singling out AIPAC and argued it was redundant, since they had already approved a broader measure earlier in the meeting condemning the influence of dark money in the midterms without naming specific groups.
Allison Minnerly, who sponsored the resolution, responded to the criticism that her resolution was singling out AIPAC, the pro-Israel political lobbying group. "Members like to say that we don't want to single out AIPAC, but AIPAC will entirely single out them and all of our different progressive leaders when it comes to primary elections," said Minnerly.
AIPACs influence has become a flashpoint inside the Democratic Party, as leaders struggle to respond to rapidly shifting views about Israel among progressives, especially in the wake of the war in Gaza and amid the current U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.

(52,449 posts)And, current events show the incredible power that AIPAC has to start WWIII. So in the interest of the future, I think it's a good idea to make a statement about AIPAC.

(12,325 posts)AIPAC money is specifically used to lobby for the deaths of other people, specifically Palestinians.
Used to ignore the theft of Palestinian homes in the West Bank.
It's used to ignore the the slaughter of children by the thousands.
It's used to ignore that only Palestinians, both Arabic and Christian, face the death penalty in Israel.
It's used to convince politicians to ignore that Mango Mussolini's "Peace Board" is meant as a front to commit genocide in Gaza and reshape it as a vacation destination for the very wealthy.
It's used to convince politicians that it was fine that the US has committed to put thousands of our soldiers on the ground in Iran but Israel would commit zero.
That's why.

(12,325 posts)Promote genocide? Maybe not directly because that's absurd but I'm not sure how else you can look at it.
Israel is in direct violation of multiple UN resolutions on the West Bank alone. It is a normal and regular thing to sell plots of land in the West Bank that is already the home of a Palestinian, that in many cases has been living there for centuries, and an Israeli bought their land and takes their home without the consent or knowledge of the Palestinian family that owns it.
AIPAC may not make those donations directly to politicians but through other aligned PACs associated with them.
To also keep the money flowing to Israel as well.
This is where I have significant heartburn. We give billions and billions of dollars to Israel and that allows them the ability to give all Israeli citizens free healthcare and a college education but we are told here that that isn't possible for America to do for Americans.
To be fair though, we should not be giving a single penny to any country that offers universal healthcare and free university to its citizens until our citizens here have that same access.

(853 posts)That's pretty evil. That's why you never see any legislators calling out Israel for it.
The problem I see is that AIPAC pushes this hard right zionist agenda, and it risks increasing antisemitism across the board (its already starting). I think its time our government officials separate the government of Israel and Jewish people, and stand up to AIPAC's smear campaigns when anyone stands up to them.

(41,140 posts)In the real-world of primaries this year D candidates who run against AIPAC are more often than not eating the lunch of those who take their money.
The daft thing, to use the mildest term I can come up with, is AIPAC isnt even spending its money on ads directly promoting their cause. Because they know fealty to Israel, that thing they demand, is a big fat political loser with most Denocratic voters. So they hide behind generically-named groups formed to take down candidates who dont espouse unconditional aid to Israel with any negative ads they can come up with.

(4,355 posts)and Israel currently runs our foreign policy. I think Epstein worked for Israel. AIPAC unchecked will guarantee we select a right-leaning Democrat in 2028 who says its time to look forward and move on. Ill bet body parts on that.
