House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) warned Republicans that their redistricting efforts could end up working against them after a Democrat won a special election in Florida on Tuesday.
Democrats FLIPPED a state House seat in Palm Beach that Trump won by 11 points in 2024. Mar-a-Lago will now be represented by Emily Gregory, a strong Democratic voice, Jeffries wrote Tuesday on the social platform X. We will crush House Republicans in November if DeSantis tries to gerrymander the Florida congressional map, he added.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has called for a special spring legislative session focused on redistricting in the Sunshine State. The session is set to convene next month. Some have already challenged the effort, alleging DeSantis doesnt have the authority to order the state House to redraw maps.
Republicans have a 20-8 advantage in the U.S. House and are looking to add as many as five more seats for the midterms through redistricting. Jeffries says Gregorys win is a sign of a broader wave rising against the GOP.
