The food industry is done taking RFK Jr.'s abuse

Source: Politico

03/08/2026 07:00 AM EDT

America’s food-makers have a message for President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers: You must choose between Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s agenda and ours.

Since Trump teamed up with Kennedy to win the 2024 election and made him Health secretary, the GOP’s traditional allies in the food industry have mostly stood down as Kennedy called their products poison and blamed them for chronic disease. They aren’t standing down anymore.

“Anytime that you’re increasing the regulatory burden or changing a system…you end up driving up the cost of the product,” said Jay Timmons, CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers. In a new video and report titled “Manufacturers Feed America” shared first with POLITICO, NAM warns the food industry is “under increasing strain” and federal and state rules targeting ingredients “risk undermining the system.”

NAM is demanding national uniform standards and a seat at the table on policies stemming from Kennedy’s Make America Healthy Again agenda. Last year, Timmons warned the White House strategy on MAHA would “take America in the wrong direction.” Food and beverage companies make up the largest segment of NAM’s membership, which includes jam-maker Smucker’s, spice- and condiment-maker McCormick & Co., and the maker of processed meats Smithfield Foods, among other iconic American names.

A lot of Americans don't have the resources and housing situations to afford and cook fresh and healthy food. Their choices are limited. tRUMP has put most Americans in desperate situations just living day-by-day. YouTube content creators have "Food Bank trip" videos.

ps- Kennedy is an ass.

going about it the wrong way. Using unscientific arguments like “It’s poison!” aren’t helpful. Never mind the dictatorial high handedness of his rhetoric. Sound science and a well thought out legislative package of carrots and sticks is a far better option than the current shambolic approach.

RFK Jr. says we need more herbicide production, stunning his followers

snip//

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s decision to endorse increased production of a chemical herbicide he has previously called a carcinogen has sparked a furious reaction among his followers and stressed the MAGA-MAHA alliance.

This is actual the perpetuation of a style of thinking that I think has contributed more to the attrition of human critical thinking skills than just about anything else.
These are two noxious entities in conflict. One can dislike both, but this “my enemy’s enemy is my friend” thought process is daft.

Now I like it when some of these stopped clocks throw some punches in their random flailing that through sheer randomness takes out some part of our very diseased society that does more harn than good.

I did not shed any tears for that tabloid Gawker, even though it was that silly ass Thiel acting through Hulk Hogan who took it out. Save for an excellent article by Hamilton Nolan whom I respect, Gawker, Jezebel etc are net a cancer on society. Very different from Elon Musk for instance suing lefty non-profits into shuttering.
It is a worry since respectable small lefty groups cannot afford frivolous lawsuits.

Nolan’s “Journalism is not narcissism” was bang on - it is hard to see the appeal of sharing. A foul and painful activity that has to be tortured out of most people who retain normal levels of human reticence.

I have never liked “left” embrace of fluff, celebrities etc, though that is typically for unclear reasons seen as conservative. Which is why reality tv/WWE seems to be the prevalent worldview.

I have yet to see RFK do anything useful. But respectable public health experts have long agreed that these megalomaniac industries have corrupted food production with lobbying groups wielding way too much power.
So the Politico’s fraudulent little guy framing (“a seat at the table” ) is sleazy bullshit though very on brand for them.

You are quite correct erronis. We (citizens and consumers) do not have a seat at the table (beyond this issue) and that is the problem. It is true the world over as this noxious form of deregulation has invaded every part of the planet effectively cutting us out of the loop on multiple fronts.

The rest of your comment is interesting and I think mostly right on. I'm guessing many of the tabloid "exposure" rags are just more funded propaganda outlets - no more honest moral outrage than the old yellow/pink journalism of times past.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearst_Communications

Cosmopolitan and Esquire are Hearst. Not sure what the awful Teen Vogue

It is why fluff generally takes priority over anything more serious (e.g.: our deep ecological crises), beyond the most superficial nods.

I despair when I see the language of social justice perverted to attack anything sane as “privilege”. Besides all of us on the left losing such “privileges” as we have in order to check meaningless symbolic boxes will in no way raise up the people in truly dire situations or heading there. It effectively shuts people up in combination with the doxxing by the right.

And it helps those shady Welcome party types and publications like Politico, which are sleazily industry friendly in the worst ways, kick out all the babies in the (foul) bathwater as low priority along with the real fluff and bullshit.

I have lately stopped worrying about communicating in ways primarily aimed at appeasing the stupidest possible person who fakes offense or dissects stuff in a mutton-headed manner.

So much of it is just random morons online or pseudo-woke corporate consultants and they do damage and misrepresent serious activists like Briahna Joy Gray or Alec Karakatsanis fighting horrors like mass incarceration, without sleazy billionaire funded “police reform”. Prof David Golumbia talked about how disingenuous bad actors like Joy Buolamwini of the sleazy and Epstein connected MIT Media Lab are in that regard. Matt Stoller also gets that.

It is an unfortunate miscommunication between two honest types of left of centre fostered by these hucksters and charlatans who have waged a war on the human brain via the media for as far back as I can remember.

I can rarely read most of them without the same sensation as nails on chalkboard.

I grew up in a military household, but I have been moving left my whole life and it is easy to parse the wheat from the chaff. But one is uncertain how to proceed in societies where this alarming internet Idiocracy is now bleeding offline, which has to be stopped.

People like Yasha Levine are such good communicators. Because throwing stats at people is useless, when math and critical thinking have been separately torched. And math might be harder to start with.

Humans are probably born with a better intuitive understanding of math than we get. But it is embattled by this steady stream of mindless drivel that promotes cognitive dissonance since that is a positive state from the perspective of these avaricious looters to exploit.

The internet and most of our media I think were intended to dumb society down. Probably a subconscious calculation by these idiots more than conscious. I don’t really buy much into illuminati style thinking. Like the chick says in “Don’t Look Up”..I think it is worse than that..they may all actually just be that stupid at the top.

Lucien Greaves of the Satanic Temple wrote a piece I liked a while back that captured some of what bothers me. He is an interesting guy and the TST really does help women out with abortions. He seems cool.

I have a 36-year history with lymphoma.
I was first diagnosed in 1990.
I am on my third remission.
I have never used alternative medicine in lieu of science.
But I have tried to eat the right foods like cruciferous vegetables and foods with low added sugar when in remission.

Cancer has existed for billions of years.
It existed in the pharaohs and it existed in dinosaurs.
And they did not have vaccines or GMO foods.
Not sure what promises RFK Jr made to Trump in regard to cancer treatment.

Trump could have pursued a true legacy instead of this one of MAHA movement and conquest.
There is promising research in cancer treatment and mRNA vaccines.
And Trump administration has cancelled cancer research.
They have also promoted myth that mRNA vaccines cause "turbo cancers".
