Lindsey Graham frets that Trump's advisers oppose Iran strike

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told Axios on Saturday that several people around President Trump are advising him not to bomb Iran. Graham urged the president to ignore them.
Why it matters: With two aircraft carriers and hundreds of warplanes preparing for what could be a major military operation, top Trump advisers tell Axios that the president still hasn't made up his mind.
He has been presented with military options that include killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his son. But his team is also showing some limited flexibility in talks with Iran. A senior official told Axios the U.S. would consider an Iranian proposal that includes some "token" uranium enrichment if it ensures there is no path to a bomb.
Between the lines: Graham, who is close to Trump, is leading the pro-strike camp in Trump's orbit.
Graham visited the Middle East earlier this week and discussed Iran with the leaders of Israel, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

(52,779 posts)I remember John McCain singing it when he was on the campaign trail. In that way Graham and McCain were quite alike, they both favored military interventions as a first response.

(27,423 posts)when he seemed to be something like a "moderate." According to Wikipedia:
"In July 2015, when Graham was a presidential candidate, he called Donald Trump, then another presidential candidate, a "jackass" for saying that Graham's close friend, Senator John McCain, was "not a war hero". Trump reacted by calling Graham an "idiot" and revealing Graham's personal cellphone number at a campaign rally, asking people to call Graham.[69]
In December 2015, Trump, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States. Graham, who had very little support as a presidential candidate, responded: "He's a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot ... He doesn't represent my [Republican] party ... I don't think he has a clue about anything ... He is empowering radical Islam ... You know how you make America great again? Tell Donald Trump to go to hell." He added, "I'd rather lose without Donald Trump than try to win with him."
