A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement worker was among 16 men arrested in a Minnesota trafficking investigation that targeted individuals seemingly attempting to solicit a minor for sex, police said.
Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said at a news conference on Tuesday that the three-day "Operation Creep" began on November 5 and focused on identifying people seeking to purchase sex from a 17-year-old girl.
"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Hodges said. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up." Alexander Back, 41, of Robbinsdale, is a civilian auditor with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and has been charged in the sting, Fox 9 reported. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
Newsweek has contacted ICE and DHS for comment via email.

(2,731 posts)Got at least one ICE "Creep" off the streets.
The news report was pretty vague, saying " They used several methods to find people who were attempting to solicit a 17-year-old girl for sex", so we don't know if authorities were posing as a 17-year-old online or what, but I'd think the odds of a search of his hard drive and/or cell phone are pretty good.

Police say Back continued the conversation even after being explicitly told the girl was 17.

According to the complaint, Back agreed to pay $200 for an hour and arrived at the arranged Bloomington location. When he texted Im here, officers saw his vehicle, registered to his wife, pull in. Police arrested him as he walked toward the entrance.
Investigators say they confirmed the same phone used to arrange the meeting was recovered from Back at the scene. In a post-Miranda interview, Back reportedly told police: "I dont really know if there is anything to say. Its all there in the texts."
Back is charged with felony prostitution involving a minor, accused of hiring or agreeing to hire someone he believed to be 17 years old. The offense carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. At the time of his arrest, Back was working for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Bloomington police. Hodges said Back could also face federal charges.
