In Reversal, Trump Says House Republicans Should Vote To Release Epstein Files
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump said House Republicans should vote to release files involving the Jeffrey Epstein case, a startling reversal after previously fighting the proposal.
We have nothing to hide, and its time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party, Trump wrote on social media shortly after landing at Joint Base Andrews following a weekend in Florida.

(1,649 posts)They need another discharge petition to appoint an independent special counsel to investigate the Epstein files and hold all involved accountable. The only way to get to the bottom of what is going on is to have a truly independent counsel.

(4,027 posts)First of all - he knows there are many Republicans on board, so he gets to pretend they are acting on his prompting.
Second - you're right. Then they get to say -ooops...sorry...we can't support it now because there is this other investigation which prevents us. (You know - the investigation we cooked up.)

(1,923 posts)Remember, it's the cover up. Bondi, Patel, Bianchi, Bongino, etc., etc. will all be questioned in about 14 months. I think that's within the statute of limitations? Ask whomever is left of Watergate.
As the Felon pardons Maxwell maybe she'll pass Bondi as she goes in through reception.

(17,176 posts)I'm sure he's been told that he is going to lose the House vote, probably by a significant, perhaps even veto proof, margin. He'll probably lose the vote in the Senate, too. No congressman or senator wants to go on record supporting Epstein. They can see the mid-term attack ads coming down the pike.

(12 posts)This will be the excuse. Yes, congress voted to release them. Yes the president signed the bill. We can't release them now because they are now part of an ongoing investigation. That's why they opened up one and are assigning a prosecutor. To appear to be in favor of the release, but not release.

Facing defeat, Trump completes dramatic U-turn on Epstein Files Transparency Act

Roughly 12 hours later, the president threw in the towel. In a rant published to his social media platform on Sunday night, Trump issued a statement that began:
House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide, and its time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party, including our recent Victory on the Democrat Shutdown.
....So what happens now? While the legislative process surrounding discharge petitions is complex and burdensome, House Speaker Mike Johnson, who largely controls developments on the floor, agreed last week to get this over with, scheduling a vote for Tuesday, Nov. 18. (The Louisiana Republican had the option of waiting for the discharge petition to fully ripen and punt the vote until after Thanksgiving. By all accounts, Johnson decided instead to rip off the bandage.)
If all goes according to plan, after the House vote on the resolution, the measure would head to the Senate, where its future is uncertain: It would need 60 votes to advance in a chamber where the Senate Democratic conference has 47 members.
If 13 or more Senate Republicans support the bill, it would eventually need the presidents signature. Watch this space.
