Government shutdown: House will vote on Senate deal ASAP, Speaker Johnson says

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday called for House members to begin traveling to Washington, D.C., so that they can vote as soon as possible on a Senate deal that would end the longest U.S. government shutdown in history.

Johnson, R-La., spoke to reporters a day after the Senate narrowly approved the first stage of the deal to reopen the government for the first time since Oct. 1.

To end the shutdown, the House needs to pass any deal that survives Senate votes. President Donald Trump would then have to sign it into law.

Johnson indicated to reporters that he expected votes in the House to occur this week, but he did not state a specific day. The speaker said he would issue an official 36-hour notice before the House votes.

I don't think they are rushing...

There may be "bridge too far" stuff in there for the so-called "fiscal conservatives" (teabaggers) who could reject the appropriations bills or try to tweak them... and that would mean that version would have to go back to the Senate for review and vote or tweaking... and if tweaked, then another vote, and back to the House, etc.

Johnson can't lose more than 2 votes or the thing(s) fail(s). He lost 2 with the original C.R.

The speaker said he would issue an official 36-hour notice before the House votes.

So that is another 1.5 day "delay" on top of whenever they are ready to vote.

He needs EVERY GOPer to be there when it comes time.

or they will just ignore the request to release the documents. Like who will punish them if they don't? Not the courts, certainly not the Dem leadership.

Of course, it is possible by now that all the important evidence linking Trump and his billionaire owners has been destroyed.
