Senate passes resolution that would repeal Trump's tariffs on Canada

Source: ABC News

The Senate on Wednesday narrowly passed a resolution that would repeal President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canada after passing a similar resolution Tuesday that would repeal tariffs on Brazil.

Republicans Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell and co-sponsor Rand Paul voted with all Senate Democrats to pass the measure by a 50-46 margin. It needed only a simple majority to pass.

Five Republicans voted with Democrats on Tuesday to pass the Brazil tariff resolution. That resolution would terminate the emergency declaration that Trump made in July and, as a result, lift the tariffs that were imposed on Brazilian goods as a result.

The vote on the Canadian tariffs comes after Trump announced earlier this week that he's adding an extra 10% tariff on Canadian imports because a negative TV commercial from the Ontario government that featured a speech by former President Ronald Reagan in which he said tariffs hurt Americans long-term.

Because the tariffs hurt Maine.

Something amazing just happened, Susan Collins working for her constituents instead of Krasnov.

Of course, that means it also needs to be passed by the House and can be vetoed by Trump. So its more symbolic at this point.

And have non stop speakers

Wouldn't screw up republicans

And if they get a few republicans to go independent maybe they could elect a new speaker

And as soon as it is called into session each day -- a pro forma session -- it is gaveled into adjournment.
So if Democrats want to stand around and make speeches, chances are no one will hear them, they won't be reported in the Congressional Record, they will, unfortunately, be no more meaningful than speeches given out on the street.

A statement which is better than nothing, but has no teeth at all.

July. It’s almost freaking November and they just thought maybe we should look at the tariffs?

This Congress is useless.

And if it was passed by the House and signed by the President it would be law. Of course the House won't vote on it and even if they did and passed it, Trump would veto it and there wouldn't be enough votes to override.

But it is a common misunderstanding that joint resolutions have no weight.

but he did both when he pointed out the difference between an emergency and what Asshole is trying to pull.

Now all somebody has to do is drag Johnson back to Congress (in chains and at gunpoint sound good) and force him to do his fucking job, along with the rest of his rotten party.
