Demonstrators Begin Gathering Across the Country for Protests Against Trump

Source: The New York Times

Some of the first protests scheduled in more than 2,600 cities and towns across the nation began on Saturday morning, part of a daylong mass demonstration that was expected to draw millions of people...

“I think that this is going to be a stronger push than the last one,” said Hunter Dunn, a spokesman for the coalition behind the event, which organizers have called No Kings Day.

“I’m seeing more of an emphasis on the understanding that this is not just a sprint,” he added, where there is a mass mobilization and then everyone goes home and Mr. Trump’s agenda is defeated. “We are seeing a difference in the understanding of the general public, that this is a marathon.”

The organizers, which include national and local groups and prominent progressive groups like Indivisible, 50501 and MoveOn, say that previous demonstrations helped get the word out, and that they have received public support from an array of celebrities, including the actor Robert De Niro.

“We’re rising up again this time, nonviolently raising our voices to declare: No kings,” Mr. De Niro said in a video.

The ones in Stockholm and Malmö are called "No Dictators," since Sweden has a king; "No Kings" would be kind of awkward. Same with demonstrations in the Netherlands and Spain. In London it's called "No Tyrants" (the irony is pretty thick wrt the UK protesting an American "king" ).

My daughter just called me from the No Kings' March in DC. She is in front of the Smithsonian Art Museum -- the one with the sharp angles in the building. National Gallery of Art, East Building -- 4th and Constitution

There are troops with rifles on bipods, on the edge of the roof, with weapons pointed in all directions.

Snipers.

She sent me photos in which the snipers and rifles are clearly shown but I can't figure out how to post them on DU.

The fucking asshole and his drunken bar fly who is cosplaying as a war general on Fox News deliberately shut down I-5 because they ORDERED the Marine Corps to hold live fire exercises in order to close down I-5 to slow down the protests.

This is a fucking blatant abuse of power and he should be removed for that.
