Almost as soon as news broke Sunday that Bad Bunny would be the halftime performer for Super Bowl LX at Levis Stadium, pro-Trump conservative figures jumped on social media to express their outrage about the NFL giving such a global platform to a musician who sings in Spanish and who has been a vocal critic of the presidents hardline anti-immigration policies.
For his part, the Puerto Rican-born artist dubbed the King of Latin Trap celebrated his high-profile Halftime Show gig at the Feb. 8, 2026, game at the San Francisco 49ers Stadium in Santa Clara as a victory for the Latino community. What Im feeling goes beyond myself, Bad Bunny said in a statement. Its for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown
this is for my people, my culture and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.
The Grammy-winning singer, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also a shared congratulatory post from California Gov. Gavin Newsom on social media. California is excited to welcome you to Super Bowl LX, Newsom wrote.
Moreover, local support for Bad Bunnys upcoming starring role in the one of the most anticipated and iconic musical performances in the world came from the Bay Area Host Committee president and CEO Zaileen Janmohamed. We are confident that Bad Bunny will deliver an unforgettable experience for fans in Levis Stadium and watching globally, Janmohamed said in a news release. This selection further amplifies the Bay Areas position as a premier destination for world-class events, and we look forward to a spectacular show that showcases the unique spirit and diversity of our region.

(7,971 posts)There's a simple answer if you don't like the performer, turn it off. Real simple.

(7,971 posts)to tune in for Kidd Rock. Lets see if the NFL bends to their will. I doubt it. Jay - Z's company has the contract to put on the Half Time Show. So there will be no Kidd Rock or Ted Nugent. I doubt any of them can bring in the extra eye balls.

(11,295 posts)don't know what they think about a Puerto Rican performer - probably the same as most people. About a quarter of the population of Santa Clara county identifies as Hispanic: it's the 3rd largest ethnic group (or groups). About 40% of the population is Asian, including people whose families come from India, China, Korea, the Phiipines and Japan, in no particulary order. It's a pretty diverse county, especially the area near the stadium - not that the people who can afford the big bucks for Superbowl tickets will leave their limos enough to see it.

(11,295 posts)he was an immigrant! Levi Strauss had no children, so when he died his money went to his nephews, who used it to fund benefits to the public such as Stern Grove in San Francisco. So, an immigrant and a philanthropist - don't tell the MAGA crowd

out of fear that his fans would be force-fed gestapo-flavored ICE. Accepting the Super Bowl gig without publicly renouncing his position first turns him into someone who is either in need of better publicists or is a hypocritical grifter.

(11,418 posts)And I like the fact he's doing it. There are also a lot of Latinos in the Bay Area as well. Hopefully the NFL won't chicken out on this.
