Dr. Oz Splits from Trump on Tylenol After Autism Tirade

Dr. Mehmet Oz is backpedaling on Donald Trump’s explosive declaration that pregnant women should never use Tylenol. The president brazenly claimed Monday that acetaminophen—the active ingredient in Tylenol—was responsible for an increase in autism among young children, and instructed pregnant women to “tough it out” and avoid the painkilling drug altogether.

But Oz, who stood behind the president while he made such stunning claims, offered a more cautious stance when asked directly.

In a Tuesday interview with TMZ, the Trump-appointed administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said pregnant women with high fevers should take Tylenol to lower their body temperature. “If you have a high fever….the doctor’s almost certainly going to prescribe you something, Tylenol might be one of the things they give,” the celebrity doctor assured TMZ Live hosts Harvey Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere, adding: “That’s not the problem.”

He told the hosts that it “might be true” taking acetaminophen for low-grade fevers during pregnancy is safe. “We don’t know,” he said. “Take it when it’s appropriate,” he said. “Acetaminophen’s probably your best option, but take it when you really need it.”

It's "not a problem" to take acetaminophen when you have a high fever, but "might be a problem" if it's taken for a low-grade fever!?

What study says that? This man is such a fraud. And he's selling snake oil in lieu of Tylenol so he's in it for the money.

I don't know but I expect there is no risk for autism from Tylenol. But if there is a risk, even then it makes sense to take it for high fever, because high fever (and fever in general) is a risk for pregnancies.

In that case it would be taking a risk to avoid a greater risk. But that's never "not a problem."

The fact is that there is no link between Tylenol and autism, just as there is no link between vaccines and autism. Both have been studied for decades.

Trump and Oz and RFK, Jr. are peddling disproven urban legends in order to make money.

That is the phrase that ripped right through me. How dare some man tell pregnant women to "tough it out", like women's pain is unimportant.

RFK Jr.s credentials are worms ate through his brain, swimming in raw sewage, and playing with animal carcasses. So he did his own research MAGA-style.

MAGA moms can suffer if they want I guess. Liberal moms will likely ignore these idiots and take the meds. Literally one of the mildest safest meds there is with the fewest side effects.

that Trump already included in his statement (by stating that it's his "opinion" and saying "do what you need to do.&quot . So, again we have a headline that overstates what is in the article, That said, I guess it shows that "Dr." Oz hasn't totally abandoned everything he ever learned in medical school (though he has clearly abandoned a lot of to it).

Regarding the comment concerning including women in drug studies, it is only going to get worse now. The Trump Administration has already come out against disaggregated data, calling it "woke." If you don't have to report on how drugs impact women, you don't need to include them in trials at all. Our government dollars at work for us!

Anyone who wants to learn more about Oz (and about how Oprah is horrible for promoting him, by the way), here is an interesting podcast:

Maybe Democrats in Congress can call Tylenol manufacturer executives to answer under oath one question. Did Donnie two thumbs demand a payoff from the company either in cash, or political donations to Republican campaigns before he attacked the company on the bullshit lie about the effects of paracetamol with a debunked study.
