Trump settles on downtown Miami for his presidential library
Source: NBC News

Donald Trumps future presidential library will be housed in downtown Miami at a location selected, in part, because of its proximity to the Freedom Tower, a landmark that played a significant role in helping Cuban refugees migrating to Florida.
Trumps team has for months been eyeing Florida, where the president is a resident, as the location for the library, which they also hope can be part of a larger development that will include an adjacent hotel. It would be the first presidential library to also be home to a hotel development.
NBC News reported in March that Eric Trump and top Trump adviser Steve Witkoff had made trips to South Florida for site visits to Florida International University, which is in Miami-Dade County, and Florida Atlantic University, located in neighboring Palm Beach County. They met with Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had been lobbying to make Florida home to the Trump library.
Both lost out, however, and the formal location will be housed on land currently owned by Miami-Dade College, adjacent to the Freedom Tower and located on the citys downtown waterfront.

So yeah, Trump would really want to rub that in by being next to a location associated with earlier presidents who let them in.

(13,972 posts)living an hour south of Miami in the Keys, I avoid it like the plague. Its a total nightmare to navigate and traffic is always at a crawl or jumble. If I fly its always out of either Key West or Fort Lauderdale. If we head up to the mainland for a long weekend, we turn left and enjoy the west coast. Everyone I know who has Dr appointments or business in Miami just groans and sighs. Its just a chore.
Its all yours, El Presidente. Be sure to head down to the beach. Youll be in good company. A lot of griftwood tends to show up there.

(47,898 posts)No hurricane had hit Miami that week. The flooding was the result of a king tide an especially intense high tide brought about by a particular alignment of the moon and sun that usually occurs in the fall and winter. Rain and wind had amplified the tides effects.
Many minor floods are a matter of inches rather than feet, but some like last Octobers in Miami are deep enough to disrupt traffic and other systems. Even a few inches of water in the basements or ground floors of homes and businesses can ruin floors, furnishings, and other possessions, requiring extensive cleanup.
Over time, the damage adds up. Standing water can weaken infrastructure. The sea level rise that underlays flooding can increase the salinity of coastal soils, degrade water quality, and make it harder for crops to grow.

Hopefully his whole family will be buried there. When the Greenland and West Antarctic ice caps melt in the next 100 years the whole place will be under 10 feet or more of water. (104,836 posts)Is a line reading
77 replies (yellow icon) = new reply since forum marked as read Highlight: None 5 newest Recommended
'Highlight' can be 'none', the 5 newest replies, or the replies recommended at least 5 times. This is a standard feature available for quite some time (I can't remember when it came in - a couple of years ago? Could be quite a lot more. Probably when recommending replies started). Still not working for me, but only on this thread, as far as I can tell (clicking on "Recommended" changes nothing).
BumRushDaShow
(160,763 posts)I don't even use that line!
I guess I'm too "old school". I think that feature (or something similar) has been around since at least DU2.
