ICC charges Rodrigo Duterte with crimes against humanity
Source: BBC
Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has been charged with crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The 80-year-old is accused of being criminally responsible for dozens of murders that allegedly took place as part of his so-called war on drugs, during which thousands of small-time drug dealers, users and others were killed without trial.
The ICC's charge sheet, which includes several redactions, dates from July but was only made public on Monday.
ICC deputy prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang said Duterte was an "indirect co-perpetrator" in the killings, which the court alleges were carried out by others, including police.

Trump is, of course, criminally responsible for murders that allegedly take place as part of his so-called war on drugs, during which alleged drug smugglers are being killed without trial. He hasn't reached Duterte's count yet, but he wants us to think he's only just getting started.

(72 posts)from deliberately mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic is much, much higher than Duterte's. Ask me how I know. The love of my life of 20+ years, my best friend, soulmate and partner in crime died on June 4, 2020 and I have never been the same since. My adult daughter and my rescue cats are the only reason I'm still even here, TBH.

(42,019 posts)Even if trump did reach Duterte's count and thinks he's only just getting started, it's very likely he'll surpass Duterte because the United States has never been a signatory to the I.C.C., and doesn't recognize the court's jurisdiction. Neither do China, India and Russia.
The Court lacks universal territorial jurisdiction and may only investigate and prosecute crimes committed within member states, crimes committed by nationals of member states, or crimes in situations referred to the Court by the United Nations Security Council. The reason the ICC issued an international warrant against Putin is for the last reason -- that the UN's Security Council referred his crimes to the Court and so its prosecutor(s) filed.
The ICC is intended to complement, not replace, national judicial systems; it can exercise its jurisdiction only when national courts are unwilling or unable to prosecute criminals...
Putin became the first head of state of a U.N. Security Council Permanent Member to be the subject of an ICC arrest warrant....[42]

That last sentence is where we're probably at. Seems like the only way the court would take trump on is if the UN Security Council referred him to the ICC as it did Putin.
trump's willing to take the gamble on just getting started. It's likely, imo, that he'll die before he faces earthly justice of any kind.
Because it's unlikely, one can only hope he does.

Not just Trump is vulnerable to iCC prosecution and imprisonment(he likely wont survive long enough). ICE Agents and cabinet members will likely have a cold cell to look forward to when it is all said and done.
