Family Friend Turned in Kirk Shooting Suspect, Governor Says
Source: Washington Post
Gift article - no paywall
This is interesting because Trump and other officials have been saying the father turned in the suspect. It shows how much misinformation is out there.
It's hard to know what to believe when the president and FBI head are spouting childish vindictive nonsense.

(68,148 posts)I posted the link. I didn't copy any of the article because I gifted the link to the entire article.
You seem like you're cranky. I usually agree with your posts but you seem unusual today.

(58,929 posts)You are one of the better posters on DU, but I already spend too much time on DU (my problem, not yours).
So many times intriguing headlines are posted and then when you spend time reading them they don't have the info. You trust the DU member so you read the article again but nope, not there.
It is also the case that many times people mindlessly post the first four paragraphs of an article. Typically they are filled with background facts already known. The thing to do is post four paragraphs from the interior that illustrate the point the OP headline makes.
Thoughtful posters use easy to do things that help DU readers and save their time. You can be a poster mindful of the readers.

I'm not very technically adept and it's somewhat challenging for me to post an OP in LBN. I have to open two browsers on my phone and toggle between them to copy and paste the headline and link. If I want to post excerpts, by that time DU has usually logged me back out so I have to edit my OP.
I thought about doing that and decided not to. I wasn't being deliberately difficult or inconsiderate.
The article actually isn't all that interesting except as an example of how TrumpCo is continuing to get even small details wrong.
I agree with you about the clickbait videos and such but in LBN there are strict rules. I copied the headline exactly and WaPo's article supports the headline.

(This is not directed at the OP, who has well explained why he posted as he did.)
Some posters seem to think that the "post up to 4 paragraphs" rule means posting the *first* four paragraphs, as opposed to *any* four paragraphs, and as you point out, the first four paragraphs almost always include at least one paragraph of background facts likely of no interest to DU readers. I have never posted LBN, I wonder if the LBN posting instructions page may not be making that as clear as it might be, that it doesn't have to be the *first* four paragraphs?
The reason someone clicks a link is because it piques their interest, and it is indeed irritating to click the link and not find the info, because the info that justified the headline was actually in the 5th, 6th, or 7th paragraph. That's the most important part that should be posted. And the worst is when you click the supporting URL to try to get to those other paragraphs, and it's behind a paywall!
But even if it's not paywalled, it's irritating to click, read, not find what you're looking for, click another link, and skip down to pick up where you left off. I've actually gotten in the habit lately of scanning the LBN section and NOT clicking the DU links, but instead clicking the bit at the end that takes you right to the source. But then, on the more interesting ones, I miss out on scanning the often interesting responses from DU members unless I go back to *that* page. No good solution here, I think, except maybe more guidance on the LBN Posting page itself.

(68,148 posts)Tl;dr it's difficult for me to post an OP in LBN. I thought providing the non-paywall link was considerate. I guess not.
I won't bother again.

(21,673 posts)I hardly ever try to post in LBN. I almost always mess up one way or another, lol.
As for this particular instance of posting a link without any excerpts from the article, it's not required, as I said. But I think most of us do it, no matter what forum we're posting in. I see it as a way to give people an idea of the content, to help them decide whether they want to click and read the whole thing or not. I also appreciate the additional info myself when others provide it. But I don't get offended if someone omits it, because it IS optional. All of which is to say that I don't think you have anything to apologize for, and I never meant to imply that.

Patel is talking about seeing Kirk in Valhalla. Our country is being run by evil sniggering 11 year olds.
Ocelot II
(127,457 posts)Valhalla is where hero warriors go after death if they are killed in battle. They reside there until the Twilight of the Gods, when they will fight for Odin against the giants. It's sort of complicated but it's definitely not Christian, and neither Kirk nor Patel are/will be warriors killed in battle. Maybe they won't even make it to Christian Heaven.

The chain of command is: shooter confessed to dad, I think dad suspected already. Dad called friend (youth minister) and told him his son had admitted to him he was the shooter. Minster called the feds.
When you figure in the roommate who told about the gun and showed the feds the discord conversation it seems as if without the people closest to him turning him in he'd still be loose.
