Every Living Former President Joins Trump in Condemning Charlie Kirk's Assassination

Source: MEDIAite

Sep 11th, 2025, 6:16 am

The killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Wednesday prompted a rare show of unity among every living former U.S. president, who joined President Donald Trump in publicly condemning the attack.

Kirk was fatally shot during a student Q&A at Utah Valley University in an attack that reverberated through Washington, with tributes and outrage pouring out across the political spectrum and past presidents releasing statements in the hours afterward.

Each one offered condolences while outright condemning the assassination.

Former President Bill Clinton wrote he was “saddened and angered by Charlie Kirk’s murder,” urging Americans to “redouble our efforts to engage in debate passionately, yet peacefully.”

I’m saddened and angered by Charlie Kirk’s murder. And I hope we all go through some serious introspection and redouble our efforts to engage in debate passionately, yet peacefully. Hillary and I are keeping Erika, their two young children, and their family in our prayers.

Statement by President George W. Bush:

"Today, a young man was murdered in cold blood while expressing his political views. It happened on a college campus, where the open exchange of opposing ideas should be sacrosanct. Violence and vitriol must be purged from the public square. Members of other political parties are not our enemies; they are our fellow citizens. May God bless Charlie Kirk and his family, and may God guide America toward civility."

We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.

I think murdering people is bad, even if the target is also a bad person. It never makes things better. It just leads to more violence.

So I have to say I agree with the former presidents' statements. I see no praise of Kirk in their statements. They are speaking out against political violence and even though some of them come off as hypocritical, there's nothing wrong with their statements per se, in my mind.

These people have been 100% AWOL while Trump has been dismantling our democracy. Hell, Mike Pence has been 100 times more vocal than all 4 of the former Presidents combined.

Trump has been able to do this PRECISELY because people like Obama, Bush, Biden, and Clinton are still acting like things are normal -- and in normal times, a former President just stands quietly in the shadows. They have ALL let the country down. They have a powerful voice and they should be using it AS A UNITED TEAM -- including Cheney, Gore, Quayle, and Pence. If all 8 of the former POTUS and VPOTUS stood together, the media would have to take them seriously.

I am not asking them to agree on policy or to defend their records in office. I am simply saying that we have a bunch of people dismantling our very system on a daily basis. Surely the former 8 should agree on that much.

Only GOP lives matter for the GOP.

Amazing how it is unrecognizable even from the times of Dubya and Dick Cheney. Just when you think you've hit rock bottom, someone pulls out a bigger shovel.
