Hundreds of Kaiser health care workers launch 1-day strike

Hundreds of Kaiser health care workers walked off the job Monday morning in a one-day strike.

More than 600 registered nurses and midwives are participating in a 24-hour walkout at Kaiser Oakland and 19 other hospitals across Northern California while they negotiate for their first contracts.

Kaiser hospitals and medical offices will remain open during what is supposed to be a one-day strike, according to Kaiser management.

The nurses union told NBC Bay Area workers' concerns include unsafe staffing levels, which leads to risks to patient care. About 630 physicians assistants and about 60 acupuncturists are expected to walk out in solidarity.
