President Donald Trump announced upcoming guidance from the Department of Education protecting prayer in public schools during a speech at his Religious Liberty Commissions Sept. 8 hearing. The hearing, held at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC, marked the commissions second public meeting and had a theme of Religious Liberty in Public Education.
Trump has long vowed to bring religion back to the nation, both on the campaign trail and so far during his second term. He walked out to the crowd at the Museum of the Bible shortly after 10:30 a.m., thanking the commission for doing an amazing job. He said his administration would protect the Judeo-Christian values of our founding. To have a great nation, you have to have religion I believe that so strongly, Trump said. There has to be something after we go through all of this, and that something is God.
He went on to allege that students are indoctrinated with antireligious propaganda in public schools before announcing the new Department of Education guidance. It was not immediately clear what the guidance would entail.
Students have long had the right to pray in public schools as individuals.

(5,748 posts)No one is prevented from prayer in school and by the same measure, no one should be forced, either. Required prayer is not protection, but coercion.
Granted, my own prayers in school usually took place seconds after an unannounced quiz was being handed out, but no one ever knew I engaged in it, let alone could prevent it.
The leverage the radical American clerics have over our culture is chilling, and that it's being done for power is actual apostasy.

(3,401 posts)Trump can't name a single Bible verse as his favorite. Any of us who knows ANY rightwing evangelical knows that they can rattle off Bible verses at the drop of a hat. Trump never says a word about his own personal religious journey, which proves that he doesn't have one - those folks are all too glad to tell you what Jesus did for them!
It absolutely boggles the mind. Trump is the most amoral, foul-mouthed, narcissistic asshole on this planet. How anyone can look at him and see a religious person? I will NEVER understand his so-called "appeal."
