Aug 31 (Reuters) - The United States has suspended visa approvals for nearly everyone who holds a Palestinian passport, The New York Times reported on Sunday.
The restrictions go beyond those President Donald Trump's administration had previously announced on visitors from Gaza. They would prevent Palestinians from traveling to the United States for medical treatment, attending college and business travel, the newspaper reported, citing unidentified officials.
The State Department said two weeks ago that it was halting all visitor visas for individuals from Gaza while it conducts "a full and thorough" review, a move that has been condemned by pro-Palestine groups.

(75,161 posts)There will never be peace in the Middle East until the Palestinians have a homeland.
Israel gets Gaza and the Palestinians can have the West Bank.
"Israel gets Gaza"??? Gaza is Palestinian. Always has been Arab/Muslim. There is no two-state solution without Gaza. In fact the IJC recently ruled that both OPT are illegally occupied and Israel must withdraw from them. Further, annexation of land through force and occupation is illegal under international law. Of course when has that ever stopped Israel?
Did you know that 80% of Gaza's population are descendants of the people who were ethnically cleansed in 1948 from their villages in what is now Israel? Especially the areas around Gaza like Ashkelon, which was once the Arab city of Al-Majdal.They were herded into Gaza like cattle, those that resisted beaten or massacred. Now they are to be ethnically cleansed AGAIN after waiting and suffering nearly 80 years?? Imagine that. Seriously, imagine how you would feel.
Israel has already shrunk Gaza into a mere shadow of what it was - what had been ALLOCATED to Palestine under the Partition. Israel took a vast slice of it for itself already, through the years. Where Octobwr 7th happened was largely Palestinian land, allocated under Partition to Palestinians.
The West Bank also is a shadow of what it once was, as I'm sure you know. The West Bank alone cannot sustain a Palestinian state.
I strongly oppose more land theft and the relegation of Palestinians to more misery. I also have a thing about righting wrongs when it comes to historical injustices. Abiding byvinternational law. It might surprise you, I am not alone.

The Regime will fall one day. At that point the elimination of Palestinians in Gaza will be complete.
Did you vote for Harris last November? It's a fair question?
Are you in any social circles with Black American women?

(3,672 posts)It must not be allowed to happen.
Democrats can still make a difference, if they ALL just did the right thing. No more arms to Israel.
I'll assume you are asking your questions in good faith. The answer would be yes to both if I were an American voter, but I am Canadian. I'm pretty sure I would have voted for Harris, despite my strong opposition to the Democrats' Gaza policy. I know for sure I would not have voted for Trump!! I keep saying though, that I UNDERSTAND why Muslims/Arabs might have voted differently or not voted at all. Not that I agree with it, but I understand it. It's not that hard, they are merely human too and you just have to put yourself in their shoes... The problem was the policy and not the voters who disagreed deeply with it. And it's not just any policy but support of an ongoing genocide - some people could not step over those nearly 50,000 bodies to get to the voting booth. I wish Biden could have been convinced to change course and Harris could have separated herself more from his policy.
Yes, I do have black female friends amongst my very small social circle. For years. As I have other minority and ethnic friends. I've always been progressive, ever since I was a small kid. A white ethnic-minority kid in a sea of WASP Canadians in the '60s - speaking broken English with an accent to boot and fresh off the "boat". I learned to be more comfortable with other minorities and "outsiders" and to champion the "underdogs" and powerless. Like Palestinians.
I hear you about minorities under the Regime. Trump wants to rewrite history, erase black history. First the Smithsonian Museum of Black History and now curriculum in some states. It's vile and shameful. I can't understand why he got more of the black vote than in 2020. It's kind of similar to the Muslim/Arab vote, isn't it, in that regard - voting against your own interests? Thankfully we don't bash black voters for that. We shouldn't bash Arabs/Muslims either - or gleefully throw FAFOs their way. That's just my opinion of course.

(75,161 posts)Gaza even before Israels invasion was a hell hole for the Palestinians that lived
there. High unemployment, poverty, and a fertile ground for Islamic terrorists
now the Palestinians might justifiable see them as freedom fighters
but the creation
of the State of Israel resulted in the destruction of the homeland of the Palestinians
and until the Palestinians have a safe and secure place to call home there will never
be peace in the Middle East. And Jerusalem should be an open city where people
of all faiths could visit the Golden Temple and the Wailing Wall.
If I owned a Time Machine the Jewish People should have been given a chunk of
Germany after WW II. Years ago I got to know a couple of Palestinians who described
the day to day crap they had to put up with from Israeli police and troops.
Thank you for your input. It is a complicated problem.
Btw Americas right wing Christo Fascists dont help with the problem with their end
times Armageddon talk.
