WASHINGTON (AP) The House Ethics Committee issued a formal reproval Friday of Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa., following a yearslong investigation into an insider-trading allegation over his wifes purchase of stock in a steel company in his Butler-area congressional district.
The panel also said Kelly and his wife, Victoria Kelly, should divest of any stock in the company, Cleveland-Cliffs, before the congressman takes any further official actions related to it.
While the committee said it did not find evidence that Kelly knowingly or intentionally caused his spouse to trade based on insider information, its report also said it did not receive full cooperation from Mrs. Kelly and was therefore unable to determine whether her stock purchase was improper.
However, the report said, Representative Kellys failure to acknowledge the seriousness of the alleged misconduct and of the investigation itself was a violation of the code of official conduct. The committee did not find a clear violation of conflict of interest.

AP intentionally focused on AOC and completely ignored Mike Kelly (R) on their main web page. I wonder why?

Update source.

(32,798 posts)Here is an original story from Pittsburgh's more popular Post-Gazette:
The committee stopped short of saying the Kellys broke laws against insider trading or conflicts of interest, but members reprimanded the Butler Republican for his lack of candor with investigators who were looking into whether Mr. Kelly used privileged information and his powerful Congressional perch for personal financial gain.
The yearslong probe into the Kellys started after his wife, Victoria, bought $23,000 worth of stock in a steel company in 2020 a purchase that would earn the couple a massive $64,500 profit in less than nine months.
When his wife bought the stock, Mr. Kelly was engaged in an intense effort to lobby the first Trump administration to issue protective tariffs for the company, Cleveland-Cliffs, which had for months warned that it might shutter factories in Butler and Zanesville, Ohio.

AP preferred to go after AOC on their main page.
There are now other sources (I think the NYT had it last night but I am out of gift links).

(16,933 posts)No one outside of western PA even knows who Mike Kelly is. The residents of PA-16 who do know who Kelly is now have all the information about the ethic committee ruling.
