"After four months of a near-total Israeli siege, Gazas few remaining hospitals now have wards for the growing number of malnourished children whose tiny bodies are just the width of their bones...
... For months, aid agencies had warned of the coming crisis, as Israel halted the flow of aid to the Gaza Strip before attempting to replace U.N. relief efforts with distribution points inside military zones. It was a move Israeli officials said was aimed at pressuring Hamas, whose fighters attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and continue to hold about 50 hostages who were abducted that day, about 20 of whom are still believed to be alive...
... In a briefing with reporters on Wednesday, an Israeli military official said there was a lack of food security inside Gaza, but blamed a failure to distribute aid on the U.N...
...The U.N. says Israeli authorities are the sole decision-makers on who, and how much, aid enters Gaza, as well as the type of supplies that are allowed in...."

(26,166 posts)I don't see how the possibility of a few hostages still alive, (not that I would condone hostage taking,) justifies letting thousands of people starve to death.

"...The UN said the evacuation order in Deir al-Balah affected tens of thousands of Palestinians and dealt "another devastating blow" to humanitarian efforts.
The neighbourhoods contain dozens of camps for displaced families as well as aid warehouses, health clinics, and critical water infrastructure..."

(90 posts)Israel, in my opinion, is, is just as bad as Germany was. Deliberately starving people living in Gaza and killing them when they try to get food is horrible. With Trump continuing to support Israel with money and weapons, he is no better than Hitler, nor is Bibi. They've killed over 50,000 people. Shame on Trump and our government for supporting this genocide.

(3,450 posts)"No limit" (banning aid trucks and the UN for nearly 5 months = "no limit" on aid)
"Analyzing the calories per capita" (WTF)
"Bring trucks" (from the active war zone of the HUMANITARIAN HUB of Deir al-Balah currently being bombed in some weird coincidence of timing )
WTF!!!!
Repulsive.

I hope the 8 make it through. It's very bad now. Trucks are given routes close to military zones and "buffer zones". Crowds of the starving are stopping aid trucks. On Sunday, I believe, dozens were killed by the IDF as they approached the trucks. It's just diabolical.
Yet in spite of the mounting, hard evidence of Israel's deliberate obstruction, and the cruelty of its GHF, some asshole spokesman for the Israeli government named David Mencer, said this week. "There is no famine in Gaza - there is a famine of the truth".
I have seen these lies, and the lies about the UN, pushed here on DU and it makes me sick.

(3,450 posts)Every violation of law and morals is because they were made to do it, you see? By the bad guys. Or they didn't do it, someone else did it. The bad guys. Because Israel is the good guy, see?
But the ones responsible for this cruel starvation know they are guilty. I wonder if it will ever bother them, what they did?
