Tommy Tuberville Praises Funding Cuts to NPR: 'Farmers Are Not Gonna Miss This'

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) praised federal funding cuts to public broadcasting entities like NPR and PBS, saying, Farmers are not gonna miss this.
In a Friday appearance on Laura Ingrahams The Ingraham Angle, Tuberville claimed that 90% of NPR content was left-leaning.
There was very little right. Anything positive about the right was never on, Tuberville said. We were about 30 years too late. This should have been gone a long time ago. People can get their news and weather. Farmers are not gonna miss this. Its been a disaster. It is a left-wing propaganda network. It is gone, and thank God.
His statements come as House Republicans voted late Thursday night to strip more than $9 billion in funding from foreign aid and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which finances more than 1,500 PBS, NPR, and local radio and television stations across the United States.

(11,163 posts)Alabama will overwhelmingly vote for him. Birmingham, Huntsville, and Montgomery don't have enough blue to turn the state around. Decades ago I was part of the Alabama Democratic Party. It is virtually dead now. I remember seeing an old friend who was high up in the Doug Jones campaign for reelection. He was meeting Doug that night and I had a chance to say hi. Later my friend said, "I think we can do this!" I looked at him and smiled and said, "Dude. You know better". He grimaced and replied, "There is always hope I guess".
Alabama. Beautiful state. Dumb politics.

(8,406 posts)Why is it that anything that has common sense and intelligence in it is considered 'left-wing' by these idiots?
I guess being intelligent is 'left-wing' these days. Being concerned about the damage being done to our planet is 'left-wing'.
In other words, bring a decent, sensible human is 'left-wing'.
The rethugs certainly think so.

(47,158 posts)Federal funds are a small portion of the NPR budget. It will be interesting to see how much corporations and individuals step up to replace those funds.
They might have to tighten their beltsor maybe they will be set free from government interference.

(2,145 posts)This farmer would miss it. I'm lucky, though. I live in an area where it is economically viable without the government money.
I hope npr takes the hint. They've gotten a little too both-siderish in my opinion. Lay out the facts and let the chips fall where they may.
The repukes don't like facts because the truth has a liberal bias.

(1,091 posts)[PBS CEO Paula] Kerger said in a statement that these cuts will significantly impact all of our stations, but will be especially devastating to smaller stations and those serving large rural areas.
She pointed out that the stations provide access to free unique local programming and emergency alerts.

(3,178 posts)Unfortunately thousands of dumb-as-fuck college football fans decided to vote for Tommy Tuboshit solely due to the fact that he coached football and that made him tough or some shit.
Frankly, had the GOPer candidate been Roy Moore, Jeff Sessions or some other racist good-ole-boy, Doug Jones would have won in 2020.

There are plenty of well-educated people in AL who want to see their kids grow up with access to educational TV, and supporters of APT know that it played an important historic role:
In the following years, Alabama would be a prototype for broadcasters and educators in the U.S. and around the world. APTs founding director, Raymond Hurlbert, was elected chairman of the board of the National Association of Educational Broadcasters for 1962-63, and he was president of the National Association of Educational Television in 1968. His participation in legislative hearings on behalf of the Public Broadcasting Act was recognized as key testimony in passage of the legislation, and he was honored by President Lyndon Johnson for his efforts on behalf of what would become national public broadcasting.

And they're conservatives to boot (though they've bitched mightily in the past about Trump's trade wars with China, so I don't know if they're full-blown MAGA).
