'Allows things to happen': Ted Cruz blames God for Texas flood deaths

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) suggested God had allowed more than 80 people to die after historic flooding hit Texas.
During a Monday interview on Real America's Voice, host David Brody asked Cruz why "God doesn't make sense" in light of the flooding deaths.
"Why does God allow bad things to happen to young children?" Cruz opined. "I don't know that I have any additional insight other than saying God is a good and loving God, and He will help us through this."
"And all I know to do is to lean on God, to lean on prayer, to lean on family, to lean on friends, and just grieve," he continued. "We have a good and benevolent God, but God allows things to happen sometimes that defy human explanation, and that's where we need love and where we need grace."

Kind of like when Texans froze to death while you vacationed in Cancun; right, Ted? That was God's doing, too, right?
Asshole.

(17,630 posts)I'm sure you noticed that just about every god-botherer always says that God wants or thinks whatever the speaker wants or thinks -- so that the speaker doesn't have to take responsibility for themselves.
Cruz is just saying "we let young kids die" and "what we do makes no sense."

If it works for the Christofascists, then it works for everyone. Or, maybe, god didnt exist and has no more to do with natural phenomena than does Yoda, Mary Poppins, or Hamlet.

If god designed said system, he qualifies as historys greatest abortionist. If god is so supportive of abortion, how can he not be ok with humans performing/inducing abortions? If their god is pro-abortion, how can Xians be anti-choice?
How about that one, Ted.

they were the truly innocent and God loving children and God just wanted them with him before they became soiled by the world.
Pick one.
Can't be that it was climate charged atmosphere ( warm the atmosphere, more water is retained ) combined with a regularly occurring weather pattern / geologic interaction ( hill country funneling all the rain water into a river ), coupled with a total lack of technology and awareness by the bible study camps full of children. Camps that were placed right next to the river by truly idiotic people. Nope, can't be that.

Cannot quite bring the name of that Abrahamic tradition to mind just now
Perhaps it will come to me on its weekly Holy Day Friday i seem to recall?
May have it all wrong.
Some of my family live in the affected area fortunately all are safe. Not without some close calls
Personally I dont blame God, or even the MAGA Golden-Orange Calf, for the deaths I think they could more directly be laid at the doorstep of our Texas legislature which has repeatedly voted down warning systems in repeatedly flooded rural communities which include Hunt
The state representative for that area voted AGAINST warning systems earlier this very year
There are none so blind

I wish he'd done himself and all the rest of us a favor and stayed on that European vacation. If he had an ounce of decency and judgment in his makeup, he would have done so.

To deflect the criticisms the Trump administration and Texas are facing after massive cuts to agencies and ignorance of prior floods they are facing after the disaster in Kerr County that has left at least 81 dead, Sen. Ted Cruz found a new scapegoat -- God.
Just blame God! That's the ticket.
