Donald Trump called Elon Musks decision to start and bankroll a new US political party ridiculous on Sunday. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it but I think its ridiculous, the president told reporters traveling with him back to the White House from his New Jersey golf club.
He then elaborated, at great length, in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely off the rails, essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks, the president wrote. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States.
The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, Trump added. He then went on to claim that Musk was motivated by discontent over his plan to end subsidies to promote the purchase of electric vehicles.
Trump also accused Musk of seeking improper influence by asking the president to nominate his friend, Jared Isaacman, to be Nasa administrator. After Musk left his role as a special government employee in the Trump administration, Isaacmans nomination was withdrawn. I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elons corporate life, Trump wrote.

(5,931 posts)Who is it going to pull votes from?
What has happened in the near future is tht 3r parties have hurt Democratic candidates much more than GOP candidates. In close elections you don't have to pull many voters to a different side to sideline a party. Will Edolf pull more from the GOP. One might think yes and hope yes but right now we don't know because he has a concept of a party.

(764 posts)The liberals want nothing to do with a guy who took their jobs away. He not only gutted their jobs, he gutted their services. The country has suffered from huge disasters lately and the help for these disasters has been sidelined. A third party might stand a chance someday, but not under Elon's creation.

(10,072 posts)Sounds like hes just planning to run candidates for a few house & senate seats so that no party has a majority.
Twitter does have100 million American viewers - split between Dems & Republicans.
As of 2024, X users are nearly evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, with 48% identifying as Democrats and 47% as Republicans among news consumers on the platform. This balance reflects a shift from 2022, when 65% were Democrats and 31% were Republicans. Groc
The World has never witnessed a genocide in real time on their phones daily - so a peace candidate could win - look at NY mayors primary. -
I think we have no idea where this is going as people have never spent half of their lives on their phones before.

(1,515 posts)In my view, Drumpf sees things in a reality-tv narrative style.
Since pro wrestling isn't actually a competition but a series of staged combats, the good guys (Faces) need somebody they can beat on and villainize.
This is the Heel.
By spending all his time bashing the heel, Trump directs his aggressiveness and hate towards somebody who has already agreed to lose. He could just ignore most other disagreements.
In this case, IMHO he expects to largely ignore any issues raised by Democratic candidates but dish out personal attacks even when there's no basis to dish. He can focus his message entirely on the heel party, treat their "faces" like legitimate candidates, and expect "American party" candidates to appear on the ballot in all 50 states.
Anybody remember the morning heel Macho Man Randy Savage was being beaten by heel Honky Tonk Man? Who comes to the rescue? Hulk Hogan. Instantly Savage becomes a face.

(1,104 posts)Everyone in this thread who is giddy about Musk "turning" on Trump or vice versa, isn't seeing the big picture. These two play off each other and just like your wrestling comparison, they distract from the bigger issues and problems.
Even if Musk's made up party draws voters from MAGA/GOP, all he has to do close to the election is tell them to vote GOP. Any disillusioned leftys will pout and stay home, and the MAGA crowd will obey orders.
Nov 2024 was eye opening. It wasn't a hard choice. Propaganda and purity sunk Harris. Not sure how we fix that. The ruling class doesn't care much about tweets, polls, protests, etc. The only thing left to fix things is our vote.
