'You need fewer bureaucrats': Chip Roy uses TX flood as excuse to cut government
Source: Raw Story

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) argued that the government should be cut in response to the deadly flooding in Texas over the weekend. In a Sunday interview on Fox News, host Lisa Boothe asked Roy if there was "blame to be assigned" for the deaths of more than 50 people.
"Yeah, I mean, in classic Washington, D.C. fashion, everybody wants to politicize everything," Roy replied. "Look, there's going to be time to go review what can be done differently."
The congressman worried that the response would be to close camps located near rivers.
"You have camps near the river because it's a beautiful and wonderful place to be," he said. "Maybe there were Democrats that were involved but not doing something. Maybe there were Republicans involved and not doing something."

(13,217 posts)The question was about DOGE decimating NOAA, and whether he felt any responsibility for failure to warn about the storms.
"It's a 100-year flood," TACO said, thereby putting the blame on God.

(24,400 posts)How do you know that, Congressman?
The "next time" could be tomorrow, or next week.
Does this imbecile think that these disasters that kill dozens or more are going to wait for conservatives to pull their heads out of their asses and do something?
lapfog_1
(31,141 posts)ok... so when the river floods and kills dozens of children... the parents should be allowed to take Chip and his children and grandchildren and tie them on stakes near the river bank... and pray for rain... because it is such a beautiful ( and dangerous ) place to be.
That statement alone should disqualify this moron from public service.

(2,944 posts)From what I am hearing this was an expensive camp so those parents probably have lawyers on retainer.
The parents themselves need to be asking themselves the same question. I put my kids in a known flood zone for camp and they perished.

(2,740 posts)And Ill bet that was one of the main (unsaid) reasons they didnt evacuate. They would have had to make full or partial refunds to the parents. Instead, they are now likely facing some costly lawsuits for negligence.

(2,740 posts)Instead, he trying is desperately to SOMEHOW get Democrats involved. Maybe there were Democrats involved and not doing something.
Hey Buffalo Chip, if it had been up to the Democrats in government, they wouldnt have made budget and staffing cuts to NOAA and NWS in the first place.
This is all on the Republicans, Roy, including YOU. You are letting Trump govern by executive order because you are afraid to stand up to him. And Trump is fucking up by the numbers and he just doesnt care.
hildegaard28
(610 posts)Texas, and they currently run Washington. Not only did Trump make cuts to NOAA, he shut off three weather satellites so billionaires can have even more. Republicans and Republicans alone are to blame. And in typical Republican fashion, they blame everyone else and refuse to take responsibility.

Hes a psychopath. It's what floats their boats. They have minds that are sick and twisted.
To love, is to hurt.
It's very hard to reconcile. Especially because the fact is that as President, he's supposed to care for America. It's not his nature to care.
But causing pain is right up his alley.
It's extremely disturbing.

I remember a book from many years ago entitled, "A Confederacy of Dunces". As I recall, the young author, John Kennedy Toole, got so many rejection notices that he took his own life. His mother finally got it published and it was a hit, and won a Pulitzer. I read it, but it was 45 years ago, so memory fails me as to the plot.

(8,105 posts)The correct answer, Rep. Roy, is to fix the camps so the housing units in the camps are on higher ground and are constructed in such a way as to make easy egress possible.
Also, if these camps are going to be "technology free" zones, the councilors need to have more training and be better prepared to cope with emergencies.
