A police officer was shot outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in Texas late Friday night and several armed people were taken into custody, the authorities said.
The shooting took place outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, the Johnson County Sheriffs Office said in a statement.
The detention center, which is about 28 miles south of Fort Worth, holds people who are awaiting deportation or are accused of violating immigration laws.
Around 11 p.m. on the Fourth of July, officers from the Alvarado Police Department responded to a call about a suspicious person outside the detention center and saw someone who appeared to have a gun, the sheriffs office said.

(2,829 posts)I read about this last night. Apparently a group of people lured LEO and ambushed them. Oddly enough it seems none of the suspects were injured. I hate to be cynical but I wonder if they were white. Here in the wild west (Arizona) ambushing cops is usually fatal. It seems this event is a bit muted......

(12,621 posts)My first reaction was that the armed men were either ICE or ICE wanna-bes. However, it seem unlikely that either would fire on Texas LEOs or that Texas LEOs would fire on them.
If someone called the police because ICE or wanna-bes were hanging around the detention facility, why would they then fire on the LEOs.
I am left with no good explanation.

(2,829 posts)After posting the extra quotes down-thread I thought off an explanation that might make since...
These were ICE contractors having delivered their haul. They probably had a few drinks and you know....boys will be boys...they vandalized a few cars. Whooped it up...and then they thought....let's show those local yahoos that aren't all about us and thing or two about who runs the place.

(12,621 posts)That would also explain why the ICEstapo won't show credentials - the don't have any.

.....
According to Alvarado police, several armed suspects were taken into custody after trying to flee the scene.

A federal law enforcement source told CBS News Saturday that local police arrested eight people. The official said some of those apprehended were wearing body armor.
The source told CBS News that early reports indicate that more than a dozen masked individuals dressed in black arrived at the Prairieland ICE detention facility late Friday night and vandalized vehicles and security cameras in the parking lot.
The individuals launched fireworks in an apparent effort to lure law enforcement, the source said.
Very strange!

(127,075 posts)so he can order around the army soldiers. Look what he did in California to pur gas on the immigration fire a few weeks ago.
No missiles for innocent Ukrainians to stop an invasion but all manner of aggressive conflict in the USA. Like building and showing off Auschwitz Alcatraz wasn't baiting to deranged people on either side of the undocumented immigrants expulsion issue.

(2,829 posts)I can't seem to let this one go. I was looking around for more info and found the names of those arrested. The surnames are not predominately Hispanic. Plus, several of the names are feminine. Are they in some kind of club....because they don't all live in the same neighborhood.

They are now saying it was an organized attack targeting ICE officers.
