Trump is ending trade talks with Canada

Source: CNN

President Donald Trump ceased trade talks with Canada and will soon announce a new tariff rate the country will have to pay, he said in a Truth Social post on Friday.

The decision to end negotiations, which have been ongoing for several months, came after Canada announced a digital service tax, Trump said, calling it “a direct and blatant attack on our Country.”

“Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately. We will let Canada know the Tariff that they will be paying to do business with the United States of America within the next seven day period,” he said.

Digital services taxes are a way for countries to tax online services, in contrast to taxes on physical products. Countries with these taxes can collect revenue from large companies that operate online — even if the business is unprofitable. American firms, especially Big Tech companies such as Meta, Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft, are disproportionately affected by DSTs, according to a report published last year by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service.

He thinks he can bully everybody into a deal. It's not working with China (a framework is not a "deal" ) or UK (the "deal" was limited and very weak tea).

The economy is his signature pillar he stands on while waving the sword of racist deportations. But he is jackhammering his pillar. He will react too little too late and then blame Powell and Obama and Social Security.

As of this writing, the stock market which had been in record territory has declined below yesterday's close (S&P500).

The China framework announced today is not a deal. It is an agreement to talk more.

It s only coming into effect on July 1st. We in Canada are so fucking sick of this useless piece of skin and he is going to destroy any chance of our countries coming back from the way he has treated us.

What he meant to say was he'll let us know how much extra US consumers will be paying for good from Canada.

AND we all know this tariff bullshit is just a smoke screen to draw attention away from illegal deportations (i.e. kidnappings) and the giveaway to billionaires.

He unilaterally pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accords and terminated the Iran nuclear deal.

More specifically, he renegotiated NAFTA with Canada and Mexico during his first term. Shortly into his second term, he said those deals were “bad” and ended them by imposing tariffs on the countries a couple of months ago.

He’s a loose cannon. There’s no consistency. Each day he wakes up with a different notion.
