Source: Independent
US president Donald Trump has admitted that Russian president Vladimir Putin could invade more of Europe beyond Ukraine.
Trump was asked whether he considered Putin an enemy and if he believed that the Russian president has territorial ambitions beyond Ukraine.
Its possible, he answered at a press conference at the Nato summit in the Netherlands. "I consider him a person who I think is misguided," Trump said.
He said Putin would like to get out of this thing. Its a mess for him. "He called the other day, and he said, 'Can I help you with Iran?' I said, 'No, you can help me with Russia, Trump said.

(4,659 posts)amazing that he has not latched on to the idea. If the US and the EU agreed to eliminate the oil price limit on Russia exporting oil and simply said no oil exports, then started intercepting the ghost fleet in international waters that has been transporting a significant amount of oil, Putin would be in even more dire economic straits at home. Yes, they do export 25% of their oil by pipeline, which could not readily be interdicted short of military action, but that would still be a huge hit to Putin. Maybe it IS the "pee pee" tapes that Putin has over Trump but otherwise Trump's reluctance to do more for Ukraine seems odd to the degree that it would boost his image to many.

Admittedly, Ukraine has had a LOT of help, but no NATO countries have sent actual combatants, and they seem to be giving "the world's second-largest and most powerful military" more than was ever thought possible. One has to wonder how far Russia would get against NATO, even without the US involved. With the US involved, his options would be
"I want an all-out nuclear war, which I will gladly start if NATO opposes me directly. If Russia can't survive, then no-one can."
"I won't employ the nuclear option, but I really would like to see Russia ground into powder."
