Bobby Sherman, the pop singer and Here Come the Brides actor whose image graced bedroom posters, lunch boxes and fan magazines as a heart-fluttering teen idol of the 1960s, has died. He was 81.
Shermans death was announced Tuesday by his second wife, Brigitte Poublon. It was revealed in March that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
Bobby left this world holding my hand just as he held up our life with love, courage, and unwavering grace through all 29 beautiful years of marriage. I was his Cinderella, and he was my Prince Charming, she wrote.
Discovered at a Hollywood cast party when he was 20, Sherman got a big break when he was signed as a regular vocalist for the ABC musical variety show Shindig! in 1964. He spent about 16 months on the program, which showcased the top acts and songs of the day, through January 1966.

I was only 7 years old when I got his record. I must have listened to it 100 times. I brought it to Show and Tell a d my friend also brought HER record to show on the same day.

(587 posts)USA Today has nice article detailing his years of public service afterwards. I knew about the EMT stuff, but not the LAPD stuff.

He was a man of service. He traded sold-out concerts and magazine covers for the back of an ambulance, becoming an EMT and a trainer with the LAPD. He saved lives. He showed us what real heroism looks likequiet, selfless, and deeply human."
By the mid-'70s, after guest starring on the TV series "Emergency!," Sherman decided to detour from celebrity life and began a new career in emergency services. He volunteered at the Los Angeles Police Department from the 1990s through 2017 and worked as a technical reserve police officer with the unit. In 1999 he was named the LAPD's reserve officer of the year. Sherman was also a reserve deputy sheriff for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

(9,706 posts)The first was "Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted" by the Partridge Family. I think Bobby made a cameo appearance on the show and I had my mom drive me to the TG&Y to buy his single.
Four years later, I was listening to Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and ZZ Top. But for a few months in 1971, I was pristine and unjaundiced.

That was the first record I ever owned. My sister and I would stay glued to the TV for Here Come The Brides.
I just looked at my 45s and I STILL have Little Women! The B side is "One Too Many Mornings" and I can see my faded 8 year old printing on the sleeve.

(997 posts)I have all the Here come the Brides episodes on my external hard drive. I enjoyed them as much as the music. We did have great music back then. Most of the protest music is as applicable today to whats going on as it was back then.

(2,341 posts)He mostly walked away from show business to find work more meaningful. His guest spot on Emergency changed the course of his life.
He was a lot like the late Kathryn Crosby, widow of Bing, who embarked on a career as a registered nurse while putting her own acting career on the back burner.
I will always highly respect both of them for that. Success isn't really about fame and riches but about a life well lived and as a bonus finding work that is meaningful.
