Boycott of McDonald's to begin this week: 'This is about more than burgers and fries'

Source: The Independent

Tuesday 24 June 2025 00:58 EDT

A grassroots advocacy group is calling for a week-long boycott of McDonald’s, accusing the fast food chain of price gouging, unfair labor practices, and avoiding taxes. “This is about more than burgers and fries, this is about power,” The People’s Union USA said in a statement on Instagram. “When we unite and hit corporations in their wallets, they listen.”

The group, which has previously called for boycotts of Amazon, Nestlé, Walmart, General Mills, and Target, accused the Golden Arches of a litany of unsavory tactics.

Earlier this month, People’s Union leader John Schwarz said McDonald’s had a record of “silencing” workers and blocking union attempts, as well as seeking to “exploit global supply chains and environmental loopholes” and engaging in performative diversity initiatives while the corporation’s “political donations and lobbying often support candidates and legislation that undermine equity, labor rights, and marginalized communities.”

The calls for a boycott come at a delicate time for the fast food giant, following a string of difficulties including a fall 2024 E coli outbreak linked to its Quarter Pounders, as well as decreasing sales and a backlash to its January decision to roll back diversity programs, joining numerous companies that took similar steps with the election of Donald Trump.

Otherwise don't frequent any fast food joints. Easy enough to pick up a prepared sandwich at a real deli.

Going out to me is a small restaurant, doesn't have to be fancy, food trucks will do as long as it's fresh food without preservatives.

I remember as a child in the 60's eating at McDonald's but it was real beef then and not unhealthy oil. I look at all fast food as poison food same way I look at highly processed food in the store with a ton of weird sounding ingredients.

I started boycotting them when they raised coffee prices 70%. And continued after their idiot decision on diversity, inclusion and equality.
Like so many other fat cats, I don't want them or need them in my life.

Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock died from complications related to cancer, his family said. He was 53 years old. May 2024

I wonder if that one month of eating McDonald’s poisoned/ wrecked his body chemistry.

Each item has increased tremendously at McDonalds, but no one is mentioning "SHRINKFLATION" of ALL their food items.

If you consider everything being 2/3rds the former size, the new prices are considerably worse than what they claim are the prices.....
The Fast food chains are all battling for massive profits.........Much smaller versions for even higher prices. They just don't understand that they are pricing themselves out of business, with their main audience..............

Everyone who can afford their prices, should boycott them permanently..........Hit the wealthy republicans, who own most of the franchises, where it hurts.......they are already making much more due to the Republican's/Trumps tax cuts..........

People say Boycott the Corporations........If you boycotted the Corporations that put Trump/Republicans in control, you probably wouldn't be able to buy Anything......

The simplest definition of FASCISM, is the merging of Corporations and Government, and we are already there, folks.
I am waiting for Trump to rename the United States of America, to the United Corporations of America........

But at least try to quit utilizing the Corporations, like fast food, that you can do without.............

Is their food worse that all the other fast food joints? No, in fact they have more healthy options that most of their competitors.

All the fast food places have jacked up prices.

None of them have union employees.

A coworker asked me to have lunch with him eight years ago. I agreed, and he wanted to eat at McDonald's. Before that, it had been closer to fifteen years since I ate there, out of desperation while on a road trip.

When I compared the taste of a hamburger I cooked at home with a bare McD's hamburger patty. McD's didn't taste like beef. Also, I realized if I put ketchup, onions, and pickles in their bun, it didn't taste much different than one with their "meat" in it.

Since then, I eat fast food maybe twice a year.
